The best relationship you will ever have is the one you are having with yourself.
We are all evolving! People usually come to see me because a crisis has happened. The origin of the word crisis means turning point. If you are experiencing a turning point in your life I can help you navigate. Sometimes when a crisis hits we find it hard to process what is happening because we are full of the emotional and mental confusion. Therapy helps to unravel the confusion so you can awaken to the awareness that comes with the turning point. Growing in awareness can create a whole new perspective.

Choosing the right therapist for yourself can feel daunting. A trusting therapeutic relationship is the single most important factor in successful outcomes. Meeting face-to-face is the best way to tell whether a therapist is the right fit for you. I provide an initial 30-minute consult free-of-charge to help you make an informed choice. My psychodynamic approach is client-centred and strengths-based. This is complemented with a variety of evidence-based techniques to help build positive change in the present, while engaging in your quest for healthier relationships with loved ones, and most importantly, yourself.

Do you feel like the waves of life have been washing over you, like nothing makes sense, and you can't tell which way is solid ground? Perhaps your relationship or marriage seems to bring more stress and tension than the peace and joy it once did? Or work that brought you joy only brings you dread? Perhaps you've lost a loved one and cannot imagine life without them? If any of these resonate with you then I would like to work with you to take the next step.

For couples, I work to de-escalate conflict, re-build empathy and encourage new ways of communicating to form a version of the relationship you both know it could be.
Are you struggling with re-living experiences from your past? The version of yourself just out of reach and held back by rumination, self-doubt, depression and/or fear? Struggle handling stress or knowing who you are? Wounded and shackled by the daily slog of modern-day living. Or are you in a relationship where arguments are frequent or withdrawal is commonplace? Where the primary issue seems to fall on 'poor communication' and you find yourself questioning what got you together, to begin with? Marriage, partnerships and relationships should be a place you find comfort and solace in, not abandonment, rejection and fear.

Me? I am a trauma therapist and published author specializing in helping anxious adults heal from childhood pain and relationship wounds.
You? You constantly find yourself replaying memories of the painful things your parents or partners have said or done to you in the past. You likely harbor resentment and fantasize about telling them just how much they hurt you. Often, you get lost in the "why" and "what if," struggling deep down with anxiety and never feeling good enough. When it comes to your relationships, you're likely always there for others, caring for them how you wish someone cared for you. But this also leaves you exhausted, always being the dependable one, and tirelessly seeking validation and to be seen as loveable.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
