Feeling stuck? Worried that things won't get better? Have you been putting off more tasks and feeling further behind? Sometimes the stress from our relationships, responsibilities, work and family demands can feel overwhelming. In times of uncertainty, we may find it especially tricky to manage what we used to manage. Feeling demotivated, alone or hopeless can be common experiences after going through adversities or trauma. We may want company but find ourselves taking a step back or feeling anxious to talk with others. We want to feel better in order to do more, but uncertain with where to start.

It can be frustrating and confusing when life looks good on the outside but doesn’t feel good on the inside; feeling tired, overwhelmed and disconnected from the things you worked so hard to have. Therapy may seem like one more thing to do in an already busy life, but there is part of you that is curious about whether it could make a difference. As a Ph.D. level Clinical Psychologist, I have spent the past 10 years successfully treating adults with depression, anxiety, OCD, insomnia, perfectionism, life stress, and relationship difficulties.

I am passionate about helping people find healing and wholeness with whatever they may be struggling with. Often times I hear people say that their circumstances feel like a mountain they cannot climb, the road they are on seems impassible or the journey seems too daunting. This reminded me of an ancient text that says: "Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth." This is the heart and passion behind what I do. My hope is to journey with you so that you can conquer that mountain, traverse the impossible trail, and find healing and wholeness

Getting to the point where you feel like you need therapy can feel awful. You have probably tried many ways of getting better and they haven't worked for you or not well enough. Are you tired of feeling overwhelmed, confused, powerless and disconnected from yourself and others? You don't need to feel like you aren't good enough. You don't need to feel stuck in anger, sadness, fear or disgust. You don't need to feel like your past is heavy and weighing you down in the present. You can process your past so you can live in the present moment. You can feel good about yourself and connect to others. You deserve joy now and in the future.

I offer counselling to people that are highly sensitive and highly empathic. Many of my clients are intuitive and seem to know things and see things that others aren't aware of. This often leaves them feeling out of place, isolated, and unsure if they can trust themselves. A common issue is being in relationships where you over give but are told you are not doing enough. This can lead to overthinking, overanalyzing, anxiety, depression, and low-self esteem. You might know what you want to do, what you want to say but get stuck because of the worry of hurting the other person's feelings.

I am accepting new clients. Sometimes it is easier to talk to someone other than family or friends, to unburden your thoughts or navigate a new path in life. Other times, we may feel stuck or are thinking about a life change. Either way, I offer to be your sounding board. I am a therapist who: genuinely listens with an open mind, is patient, kind and compassionate, honours your experiences, and supports your well-being.

"Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein - As a psychologist, I tend to work with people to focus them on what they can change and control to find successes with their problems. Whether working with couples, families, children, youth, or adults, I'd like to be the guy who listens in a way others may have failed to hear you before. My ideal client is anyone craving new skills, new ways of thinking and feeling, and is ready to learn how to think anew about the things they were once sure of.

Challenges and suffering are a part of everyone’s journey. To be human is to feel the full range of emotions - the good, the bad and the ugly. But emotions can be confusing and cause a great of distress. I can help you understand what you're feeling and why you're feeling it, so you can use your emotions as a guide to living a full and meaningful life. When you sit across from me, you get an authentic, genuine person. I’ll laugh with you and cry with you. Because there is power in being able to share your emotional experience with someone, so you know you’re not alone.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
