Welcome! Whether you’d like to be kinder to yourself, feel more authentically you, or find more ease and contentment within your relationships, I can help. Many of my clients are professionals, creatives or care providers who function well overall, but still struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, chronic stress or painful relationship issues that get in the way of experiencing all that they hope for in life. Others have been deeply impacted by trauma, sexual assault, loss, societal and family dysfunction endured throughout life, and seek support that is holistic, patient, and focused on their strengths and capacity for deeper healing.

I offer a combination of expressive arts therapy and play therapy to clients who are neurodiverse, have developmental challenges, have suffered trauma, loss, or who have complex family situations. I seek to attune to the client, providing support through empathic listening, whilst also offering a range of arts and play possibilities to explore. Change is possible as the client feels honoured in their unique way of being, whilst grounding and utilizing tools to express authentic aspects of themself. The client discovers resources within themselves that help them overcome obstacles and challenges.

Not all Binges are a Choice. The exact cause of BED is unknown, but chemicals in the brain, family history and certain life experiences may play a role in Binge Eating Disorder. BED often begins in the late teens or early 20s. BED affects slightly more women than men. About 40% of those with BED are male. I believe we “know” when our eating behavior is off and that dieting will not resolve the underlying anxiety. There is help, I’ve been there.

My past experience working in addictions has given me a deep understanding of trauma and the impacts of family patterns of dysfunction.
You deserve to feel good about yourself. Even if that feels completely impossible right now. Even if a mean little gremlin of an inner critic has been telling you otherwise, maybe for your whole life. So many things get in the way when it comes to how we feel about ourselves and our lives - stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, dysfunctional relationships, toxic work environments, isolation, etc. It can feel like a million boulders piling up on top of you until you can't even see which way is up. I've been there and counselling was one of the things that helped me find the light again. The journey is easier with support.

I have been employed as a clinical counselor since 2006, providing counseling on various issues including addictions, depression, anxiety, ADHD, self-esteem, trauma, child & youth mental health, anger management, crime victim assistance, family issues, couple counseling, parenting, and so on.
My foundation of therapy is a biopsychosocial-spiritual model, viewing human beings as whole persons of four aspects: physical, psychological, social, and spiritual. Therefore, I am able to see the whole picture on how a brain injury, physical illness, physical trauma, or substance abuse affects human emotions, cognition, behavior, and spirituality, or vice versa. My approach utilizes Cognitive Rehabilitation therapy (CRT), Rogerian therapy, Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), and Narrative therapy in order to help my clients toward problem solving and having a new hope for a new life.

Sometimes we get caught up in our day-to-day routines or we feel too stretched, stressed, or spent to get going on creating the future we want for ourselves. Other times, there are family or societal expectations that push up against our dreams of how we want to show up or what we want to do in our lives. Adversity happens, and sometimes difficult events can block us from moving forward in the ways we want. You have strength within you, though, and there is always something good to build upon. This is where we can start our work together.

Are you anxious or fearful in safe situations? Sex life not the way you want it? Are you healing from illness? Do you avoid doing ordinary things because they make you uncomfortable? Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
