It can be difficult to reach out and start therapy. It is important to find a psychologist who is warm and supportive and also has the training and experience to help you understand and resolve your difficulties. I have been a Registered Psychologist for almost twenty years. I have worked with teens and adults to address a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, anger, chronic pain, and the sequalae from traumatic brain injury. We will work together so that you can fully understand the nature of your symptoms, focus on your strengths, and learn new tools to address the problems that you are experiencing.

Our team aims to help you create and discover a life worth living for and have fulfilling relationships with yourself and with others. Living from a place of fear/anger/resentment right now might be impacting how you see the world every single day. It may also affect your relationships with your family members, partners, and/or children (young and adults), friends, even coworkers, and you need help to make sense of it all. Every day, you may experience conflict, lack of connection, fear of something, or other challenges that gets in the way of you finding that sense of belonging and ownership over your life.

We may not be able to control the external events or the actions of people around us; we can choose to respond in ways that strengthen and empower us, regardless of the situation we face. It is my belief and experience that by looking inwards, we can transform the impacts of our past and create a different future and perspective for ourselves.

Hi there, nice to meet you! There are a lot of therapists on here and it can be hard to know where to start, so to help you work out if I might be the right fit, here are some headline facts about me: I am proudly LGBTQ2SI+ friendly, an intersectional feminist and strengths based counsellor. I work using a trauma informed approach and believe that clients are the experts of their own lives so I believe the best thing I can do is create a non-judgemental space for them. I love to laugh, run, drink tea and am open about choosing not to have children in a world that makes that difficult.

Shelley Ugyan, RRC, is an acclaimed author, speaker and has over 15 years experience in mental and holistic health. Her evidence based tools including Cognitive Behavioural reconditioning as well as psychodynamic, relational and hypnosis approaches set you on a path to direct healing, starting immediately after the first 90 minute session. Her approach is genuine, empowering and powerful. Healing is probable, and happens as a result of conscious daily actions and unconscious dynamics that shift as a result of this process. Shelley loves to work with individuals who are ready and willing to change their thinking to heal for life.

You're lying awake at night, unable to rest despite feeling exhausted. Each day feels like you're stuck in a rut, going through the motions without joy. Social outings, once a source of happiness, now feel like a chore. Your inbox is overflowing, and the anxiety of not knowing where to start is paralyzing. Concentration is a constant battle, and decisions feel overwhelming, no matter how small. You've tried sleep aids, but your anxiety and depression still linger. Relationships that once brought you comfort now feel strained and filled with conflict. You're yearning for change but don't know where to begin.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
