Everyone is unique. Most therapies attach a label to guide their choice of treatment. I believe that everyone has arrived at their issue through a series of experiences that have uniquely shaped their minds. I ask myself two key questions, what’s that about? And how can I use it? What this leads to is a way of working that is completely tailored to the client’s way of thinking. I fit techniques and interventions from a wide range of other approaches including CBT, Gestalt, NLP and positive psychology into a bespoke approach suited to the client.

Thank you for being here, welcome! I understand how overwhelming it can be to find the right therapist. No matter how composed you may seem on the outside, internal struggles can make life feel overwhelming and draining. You might find yourself so focused on the world around you that you forget to check in with your own feelings. Alternatively, you may be so absorbed in your internal experience that it feels like life is racing by without you. Whatever you’re going through, know that you’re not alone, and together we can navigate these challenges.

My practice focusses on adults who are themselves living with high functioning autism and/or HSP and/or ADHD. The sessions provide opportunities to talk in detail about one’s own unique experiences living with ASD or ADHD with someone who gets you. Engaging guided explorations lead to the revelation of blind spots and the discovery of ways to see things from new perspectives. Collaborative development of tailor-made strategies helps with communication, boundary-setting and the management of daily challenges. Sessions are free from judgement and you are supported to work at your own pace.

Therapy is one of the most powerful tools we have to navigate the challenges of life. Anxiety, depression, grief or just feeling generally stuck are all experiences that come with being human, and seeking support is an act of courage that can change your life for the better. Personal therapy can offer us connection, insight, and resources. My clients often find that after engaging in counselling for some time, not only are life's challenges easier to endure but its joys are equally richer.

My approach to counselling is a psychodynamic, person-centred, and trauma-informed approach. The psychodynamic approach can help us gain new insights into our lives, and by integrating art into the session, it can become a powerful mind-body-oriented resource for individuals to look into themselves, and at their concerns, from a different angle.

Why does being me feel so difficult sometimes? If you’re asking this question, it's perhaps because what used to help you cope with life is no longer working. But your suffering is not your fault. I will walk with you on your journey towards discovering and unburdening the parts, feelings & needs within that have been silenced for survival. I work predominantly with racialized, neurodivergent, and LGBTQ+ people experiencing anxiety, depression, self-criticism, emotional difficulties and other complex-PTSD symptoms. My goal as your therapist is to help you write a new self narrative that is more liveable, authentic, and empowering.

I work with clients who want to find relief from their struggles with the following: depression, anxiety, anger, grief and loss, worthlessness, despair, disordered eating, life/work transitions, addiction (substances, pornography and gambling), and the negative impact of sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and poverty. Often in the beginning, people come in feeling overwhelmed and frustrated and may be clearer initially of what isn't working for them or what they no longer want in their life. I believe these feelings are a resource to reveal what you do want in your life, what's important to you, your values, hopes, dreams and commitments.

My therapeutic approach has been influenced by a range of disciplines and anti-oppressive frameworks - however, my practice is most influenced by Narrative Therapy. Narrative therapy invites the therapist and person seeking change to work collaboratively in unpacking unhelpful narratives that are carried and re-authoring our own narratives towards new, helpful changes. Problems often dominate the story of who we are and help us to make unhelpful conclusions about ourselves. In fact, many people report that those problems can completely consume their sense of who they are. From this approach, I hold the stance that ‘you are not the problem, the problem is the problem’ (White, M) and together, we can explore how problems may be dominating your story, working together to re-author it. In my experience I have worked with many individuals, families, and couples renegotiating their relationship to various problems. Contact me today to discuss re-authoring your narrative.

Are you excessively hard on yourself? Do you wish for more connection and harmony in your relationships? Do you sometimes feel hijacked by your emotions? Many of my clients are parents, professionals, students, and creative types who present and function well, but inwardly fight feelings of anxiety, inadequacy, and anger. In therapy, we come to know and connect with the parts of ourselves that we have spent a lifetime trying to conceal. Whether you are struggling with a current situation, or wanting to process more chronic emotional and interpersonal patterns, I am happy and prepared to support you.

I believe in your inner resources to heal and step onto a new path, in your own way, and offer my services in confidence, as a compassionate witness on your journey of healing. During our sessions, I will gently encourage you to be true to yourself and your own direction, especially as you explore unsettling or difficult issues. My training and experience includes both psychological and spiritual dimensions of human growth and potential. Psychology and spirit are deeply connected: I have witnessed my own and others' healing coming through the heart, the body and the spirit.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
