Some include EMDR, EFT, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy and the use of Sand tray.
My clients come from diverse backgrounds and live with anxiety, depression, trauma, mental health disorders, and attachment dysregulation. I work both virtually and in person with adults, youth, and children. During our sessions we work at regulating symptoms, increase a sense of control, and develop an increased understanding of your internal systems. For children clients, some are in a preverbal stage of development and it may be difficult to name or express their inner feelings. Play and Sand tray therapy offers an alternative to talking in which I use both directive and non directive approaches.

I invite an integrative approach into our sessions pulling from mindfulness and positive psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural theories, narrative and emotion-focused, through a trauma informed lens.
We are all travelling through life, finding and losing track of ourselves. there comes a time where we may feel unaligned and stuck with our current path. Bringing awareness to our path allows a moment to recenter ourselves to understand where we’d like to go next.

I focus on a combination of theories including Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) from a person-centered mentality.
The concept of our “self” can be approached in numerous ways. In my practice, I see our consciousness and actions as driven by parts. These parts can operate with various outcomes with a baseline of wanting to do good in your life; however, in different situations, these parts can do more harm than we want. The mind and body are such complex systems that it would be foolish to think that a single method will work for everyone. My practice sees a combination of theories including Internal Family Systems and Narrative Therapy.

My integrative approach pulls from several different theoretical orientations including Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical Behavioural therapy.
For many, counselling is an opportunity to evaluate life changes, relationships stressors, and attachment patterns. For others, it can be their only opportunity to emphasize time for themselves and to experience feeling like they are a priority. I recognize the courage and vulnerability it takes to self-reflect and identify areas which you would like to develop insight and emotional intelligence in. I encourage my clients to attach themselves to the process of personal growth and self-discovery rather than simply the end goal, as this creates opportunities to generate self-compassion and gratitude for your strengths and abilities.

Narrative Counsellors
Is narrative therapy evidence-based?
Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.
How long does narrative therapy last?
Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.
Does narrative therapy work?
Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds — perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.
What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?
Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
