Life can feel overwhelming at times. And all of us can benefit from outside help at some point in our lives. It takes courage to reach out for that help and so welcome to my page. I treat each client differently because we are all different. What is common though in my counselling, is my belief in a collaborative approach. Together we can prioritize issues that you may be facing. I am trained in Family Systems and in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. In my experience, counselling can help us become more whole, more authentic and more happy!

Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better. - Maya Angelou. What does it mean to live your best life and do better? For each of us, the common thread is a deep desire to be seen, heard and loved for who we truly are. Often, the twists and turns in relationships with our families, partners, children, friends, work and other life activities, can challenge us to be our true selves and to know happiness. Our earlier lives create our belief system, many of our behaviours and coping strategies. To enjoy our best lives some of these well-trodden pathways often require significant shifts.

Working with me is a process of honestly confronting our internal world in a non-judgemental way. Together we can work towards authenticity and a genuine relationship with ourselves and others. Counselling entails finding ways to manage our experiences while changing the underlying issues that perpetuate them. Sometimes, growth means overcoming obstacles through practical work, and sometimes it making sense of our challenges within the broader unfolding of our lives. For affordable counselling options, I supervise Master-level counselling interns through yourpathcounselling.ca

I have supported a lot of people struggling with anxiety, depression, feelings of aloneness, and a yearning for things to be different. Maybe you know there’s old baggage (hello, old trauma!) that probably needs unpacking, but don't know how to start… or maybe you’re truly not even sure why everything feels hard. I support a small team of excellent counsellors in a group practice, and my top priority is to make sure that we are offering therapy that feels worth your time, energy and money. If you want to feel like your counsellor gets you, for real, and won't pathologize you, then you're in the right place.

Founder and Registered Clinical Counsellor of Pediatric Power Play. The clients I serve are typically between the ages of 3 and 19. However, I work from a family systems lens, which operates on creating consistency and allowing my clients to include their parents or have separate therapeutic relationships with them. The needs and goals of each client vary between building confidence, emotional regulation, coping strategies, relationships, and so much more. One thing in common for all my clients is allowing them space to explore and navigate to find their identity and support them in accomplishing any change.

I approach therapy as a creative and collaborative process that involves the whole being of both the therapist and client. In order to lead fulfilling, joyful lives, humans need access to the intelligence available through their physical, psychological, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual selves. Trauma, shame, and fear can disrupt our ability to access and experience these aspects of self fully, and can leave us feeling dissatisfied with our lives. By working directly with clients' felt sense of their bodies, as well as their stories and their feelings, I support clients in deepening their relationship to all aspects of themselves.

I work with individual adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, and the persistent echoes of trauma. I have experience working with survivors of relational trauma and trauma related to adverse childhood experiences as well as those who experience ADHD, PTSD and C-PTSD. Clients often reach out to me for my warmth, genuine caring, and deep belief that healing is possible. I can help you build up grounding and regulation skills, identify the unconscious patterns that undermine your life, and help you find healthier, expansive, and more flexible ways of relating - to yourself, to others, and to the world.

I like to focus on the ways that we add distress and intensity to our emotional experiences.
My name’s Martin and I’m a Registered Psychologist who works with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples. I most often work with people experiencing depression, anxiety (e.g., panic, OCD, generalized worries), and family and relationship difficulties, but also have experience in therapy and assessment with ADHD in children and adults. I place a strong focus on the ways that we experience emotions as well as how we communicate with others, but even more importantly with ourselves. Without necessarily realizing, we are constantly talking to ourselves through our thoughts and constructing how we experience the world.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
