Loss of health; adaptation to medical treatments and therapies; family conflict; separation and divorce; migration-related challenges (cultural and or geographical transitions - arriving and leaving); loss of employment; and career/educational transitions.
* Please e-mail prior to arrange an information phone call * I have maintained and deepened my passion for working with children and assisting families since I began counselling in 2000. I strive to facilitate the personal growth and healing in a non-directive way, in a manner that is empathetic, warm, and accepting. I see children as an essential component of a healthy family dynamic and strive to help them through their problems, anxieties, fears, and uncertainties by way of play, art, and sandplay therapy techniques.

Sometimes we need support navigating the complexities of life. As individuals, we experience these complexities in unique ways, often feeling alone. You may be navigating grief, anxiety, anger, fear, trauma, relational concerns, transitions, self-worth or feeling overwhelmed. My goal is to cultivate a trusting, accepting relationship that holds space for your unique story, a space where you can feel seen, accepted, supported, and valued.

Particular areas of focus are: death and dying, traumatic grief, suicide bereavement, pregnancy loss, pet loss, anticipatory grief, nonfinite loss, and ecological grief. Before getting into who I treat you should know that because of Covid-19 and the flu I am only doing sessions online or by telephone. The clients I treat are adults who may be dealing with things such as anxiety, PTSD, trauma, family of origin issues, relationship issues, grief and loss, depression, life decisions, career challenges, life and workplace stress. I see clients wanting to overcome a personal challenge to be able to feel more free and alive to pursue a healthier and less stressful life. I also see couples wanting to improve their relationship skills and reduce conflict.

Some concerns that I address during counselling are: parenting challenges, grief, postpartum depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, self-esteem, attachment-bonding, and addressing familial and cultural expectations (namely for BIPOC individuals).
I support clients of all genders in individual counselling, and also offer relationship counselling for folks wanting support with relationship or parenting challenges. I want all parents to know that fluctuations in emotions, mood, and even patience don't make you a bad parent. Every situation can improve, little by little. This applies for relationships too: it's so common to struggle with things like communication, managing role transitions, intimacy, and dealing with stress and conflict. I am here to help you navigate all these ups and downs so that you can feel more connection, support, and fulfillment.

I have experience helping individuals, couples and families, who have faced relationship struggles, grief, trauma, anxiety, violence, addictions, identity struggles, depression and much more, regain hope and ultimately find their own success.
When confronted with challenging times - whether it is struggling with mental health, your relationships, addiction, identity or just not knowing what to do - feelings of despair, loneliness, desperation, and fear can overwhelm hope.

I also have experience working with depression, anxiety, panic, grief, personality disorders, substance and process addictions, parenting/family issues, relationships, co-dependence, mood and personality disorders.
I draw from a range approaches depending upon your needs and preferences. Among them are cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal neurobiological ideas, family systems therapy, and attachment theory. It is common for clients to arrive with issues identified only to discover that there are other deeper and more fundamental issues which underlie them. I work at a pace compatible with your ability to integrate change. I am gentle and encouraging, but firm and forthright. I provide a free initial consultation so you can determine whether you feel comfortable with me. My aim is for you to feel welcome, safe and comfortably challenged.

If you're struggling with repressed trauma, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, grief, relationships, or life transitions, these are areas we can work through together.
I help people learn to forgive themselves for the things they had to do in order to survive. I believe that when we feel safe in our body and free from the shackles of our past, we can create our dream reality. By honouring our sensitive nature, and creating a safe space to explore, we can set our inner child free - inviting playfulness, humour, and curiosity to the healing process. We are not what has happened to us, we are who we choose to become. I'm here to help you discover who you truly are on a soul level.

Hi and thank you looking at my profile. I work mostly out of a strengths-based perspective which means that when we talk about the things you want to change in your life, I'm not only considering what you struggle with but also all the things that you're great at. In my experience, we all have skills and tools that we might not be aware of and part of my role is to uncover them with you. In some cases, we might also want to add to your toolkit to give you more options to deal with life's challenges. In the past, I've helped clients work through depression, anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions, communication skills, and trauma.

Traumatic life events come in many forms. People feel powerless and groundless; often experiencing life on autopilot. If you experienced a traumatic event as a child or the care you received involved toxic amounts of stress, abuse or neglect, a variety of attachment wounds can interfere with your present-day relationships, parenting abilities, and general well-being. Experiencing loss, rejection, abandonment, abuse or neglect disrupts development and changes our focus to survival. There is no timeline for healing from trauma, but it is possible to recover and create the life you desire.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
