I am trained in Breathwork & Somatic Experiencing and often involve these modalities in my approach as well.
Now accepting new clients! As a therapist who has lived experience with C-PTSD myself, I often work with clients who are looking for support in unlearning some of the protective patterns that they developed in childhood that are no longer helpful to them in their adult lives. I can offer a level of understanding beyond being trauma-informed, as my personal history combined with my education in trauma can support you in gaining a deeper understanding of how your reactions make sense on a biological level and how we can tap into the mind-body connection to create new, healthier patterns so that the old ones may eventually fall away.

I am trained in EMDR and currently completing training in Somatic Attachment Psychotherapy.
Hello and welcome! I work with adults struggling with anxiety, trauma, stress, burnout, low self worth, grief and loss, personal growth, and other life struggles. I am genuinely invested in each person's story and experiences in life and want to ensure people feel heard, seen and understood. Together, we work to build coping skills, mindfulness/grounding skills, balance, understand negative core beliefs, nervous system regulation, self confidence, empowerment and joy! Witnessing my clients gain new perspectives and then start making more aligned choices from an empowered space is the most rewarding part of my work.

I am a trauma-informed counsellor offering EMDR, solution-focused therapy, parts work, and somatic therapy. I also support clients in developing tools to regulate and process emotions, heal from traumatic invalidation, PTSD, and narcissistic abuse, and cope with OCD. Since trauma is often held in the body, my approach is nervous system informed; I support clients in helping the mind and body connect healthfully. My sessions are a safe space for all, I am queer and neurodivergent friendly! I also have experience working with clients who have chronic diseases such as POTS, EDS and fibromyalgia.

I use several somatic (body-centered) therapy methods to support those I work with.
We often hold wisdom and knowledge in our bodies that our minds aren't yet aware of. I'm interested in supporting people to access this wisdom by building bridges from our bodies to our consciousness. Body-centered therapy can be helpful when it feels like talking has not brought about change, we've created stories we can't seem to break from or there's something more that we have not been able to access. By strengthening the connections between all the parts of ourselves, we can better understand what we know, need and want in order to live in a way that is aligned with who we are and who we want to be.

Hi, I'm Hunter.

When you're struggling... it can be hard to know where to start. Maybe you're feeling overwhelmed. Perhaps you've been carrying what has happened to you alone. Friends and family - they just don't get it. You've been doing what you can to get by, but know you're not thriving in the way you'd like to be. Perhaps you've been though a painful or traumatic experience and know you're ready to start processing what has happened to you. Or maybe, you're in a challenging life transition. You don't have to be alone with hard things. Counselling can help.

My therapeutic passions align with my lived experiences and education around attachment, relationships, sex/sexuality, and grief. I know first hand that how our brains and bodies process the world affects how we explore and execute attachment. Knowing ourselves thoroughly can help us build meaningful relationships that connect us to our community. I do this work because I enjoy hearing each person share their unique story, which highlights how they experience connection and growth. I love sharing tools to support a regulated nervous system, connect you with your values, and help you live in a way that honors those values.

I strive to create a warm, open, and trusting relationship with my clients, holding a safe space for them to journey through challenging experiences and emotions. I take a person-centred approach, remaining curious and sincere in my efforts to understand another's experience. I seek to find areas where individuals may feel a lack of authentic freedom, encouraging them as they navigate various life issues and work towards clarity and congruence. I am particularly adept at working with immigrants, as I am keenly aware of the barriers and challenges that come with adjusting to a new culture and environment.

Life experiences can leave us feeling stressed, anxious, inadequate and even hopeless. At times we feel lost, as we struggle to navigate the pain and discomfort we are feeling and may be unsure of how to take steps forward. Counselling can be a place where we make space for the painful experiences of the past, our hopes for the future, and embracing all of who we are and hope to be. No matter what difficulty you are facing, there is hope in restoring what feels lost or broken and support for you as you process, heal, grow and find meaning.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
