My therapeutic passions align with my lived experiences and education around attachment, relationships, sex/sexuality, and grief. I know first hand that how our brains and bodies process the world affects how we explore and execute attachment. Knowing ourselves thoroughly can help us build meaningful relationships that connect us to our community. I do this work because I enjoy hearing each person share their unique story, which highlights how they experience connection and growth. I love sharing tools to support a regulated nervous system, connect you with your values, and help you live in a way that honors those values.

I strive to create a warm, open, and trusting relationship with my clients, holding a safe space for them to journey through challenging experiences and emotions. I take a person-centred approach, remaining curious and sincere in my efforts to understand another's experience. I seek to find areas where individuals may feel a lack of authentic freedom, encouraging them as they navigate various life issues and work towards clarity and congruence. I am particularly adept at working with immigrants, as I am keenly aware of the barriers and challenges that come with adjusting to a new culture and environment.

I am a Registered Psychologist in BC and have been practicing since 2003. I do individual therapy with adults primarily from a psychodynamic perspective but incorporate other perspectives such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), EMDR, and trauma-informed practices. Much of my work has focused on helping people who are experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma or stress. The length of therapy can vary. Short-term therapy can be helpful for lessening symptoms or adjusting to new life circumstances, while longer-term therapy can be useful for addressing longer-standing issues such low self-esteem or the after-effects of trauma.

Emotional pain is inevitable in life. Feelings of stress, inadequacy, disappointment, anxiety, anger, and sadness are universal and part of the shared human experience. Every individual experience these feelings through different situations and all of us interpret these experiences through varied perspectives because of our past and personality differences. In order to move on from our hurts, sometimes we learn to mask our feelings by suffering in silence or behaving as though everything is okay. However, when we avoid facing our pain, they may fester within us and surface through family / career / relationship / health issues.

Modern life offers unique challenges to our children, our relationships, and where we are often last to focus, ourselves. If you are currently overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, depression, ADHD, neurodiversity, grief, addictive behaviors, anger, or by something you feel guilt or shame about, you are not alone. We all find ourselves struggling at times, even questioning the daily reality and meaning of our lives as men, women, and non-binary people. Shining some light on these topics can be so very helpful. I provide a warm, judgement-free, safe and private space for you to share, to explore yourself, to reflect, and to heal.

No longer seeing in-person clients in Langley. "You can't cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water." -Rabindranath Tagore. Whether you have tried many therapists, or have never been to therapy, I am comfortable working with people who are skeptical about the counselling process. I bring a trauma-informed lens to counselling to help you work through tricky moments from the past and present that we may or may not be entirely aware of. I have a person-centred approach, which means that I work collaboratively with you, at your own pace.

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by emotions like fear, anger, or anxiety, unsure of how to navigate them? Maybe you find yourself stuck in cycles of self-doubt, constantly on edge, or fearing something bad is around the corner. Childhood trauma can leave lasting imprints, making it hard to regulate emotions, trust yourself, or feel in control. In your relationships, you may notice repeating patterns: putting others’ needs first, struggling with boundaries, or finding it hard to trust. Over time, these ingrained habits can affect both your mind and body, sometimes leading to chronic pain or illness.

If you're a parent challenged with a child who brings a whole lot of stress and chaos I can help. If you are finding there is more struggle than seems natural, it might be a deeper understanding of your child's personality, and how it intersects with your parenting style that is required. I have developed a program I call Transformative Compassionate Parenting, thru this way of looking at your relationship with your child we can create calm and rational responses, where there once was only explosive emotional outbursts. Reach out for a chat, calm is only a phone call or email away.

Life can be very overwhelming, especially if we feel that we are facing certain obstacles and life transitions alone. If you are struggling to find meaning in your day to day or you find yourself unable to make decisions out of fear of repeating past mistakes, it can prevent you from living the life you would like to life.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
