The clients I work with understand that there is a spiritual thread that weaves beneath the surface of their lives, and they are seeking guidance on how to re-connect to this important aspect of who they are. I commonly work with fertility struggles, grief processing, depression, overwhelm, addictions, anxiety, relationship conflict, eating disorders, low self esteem, trust issues, and clients who are simply unhappy with the current state of their life. Ultimately, my clients are searching for balance between the mind, body and spirit aspects of self, which when in alignment, can lead to a heart-centered, joyful, fulfilling life.

Hello! My name Is Rebecca (she/they) :) I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor who offers counselling to fellow QTBIPOC folks including both adults and teens. I believe that therapy is inherently political and my approach takes that of a more casual and relational nature than some may have previously experienced. My aim in doing so is to not only break down power dynamics, but also to prioritize building our trust, safety, and rapport. Whether you’re looking for support reactively (crisis management) or proactively (growth focused), I graciously welcome you to co-exist and share space with me.

My typical clients are teens, adults & couples, experiencing a feeling of being stuck in re-occurring patterns in their lives. They often have insight into their experience, and are aware of what needs to change - they just need a bit of support making it happen!

I completely understand that the thought of going to a counsellor can be intimidating.  While working with my clients I help them so they can communicate their thoughts and feelings and know that they are being understood and not judged. Each individual I meet have a unique history and cultural backgrounds that shape their life experiences. I work with my clients to explore what’s on their mind I aim to provide a safe space, non-judgmental, and trusting environment so that through self-understanding my clients are able to discover effective ways of supporting themselves.

You are never meant to do this life alone. As humans, our aloneness is undone when another person comes alongside us. Perhaps you are desiring healing of past wounds so that you can build deeper and more secure relationships with yourself and others. Perhaps you are at the crossroads and making a life altering decision and are needing support as you transition. Maybe you are experiencing burnout. Or you may be struggling with how to go on living in the wake of losses. Whatever challenge you are facing today, I want you to know that there is hope for change. I count it an honour to walk alongside you and meet you where you are at.

There are times in life when things become too overwhelming to face alone. I work with clients who need space to process their thoughts and feelings, explore new ways of thinking and examine unhealthy cycles and patterns. Taking the time to examine one's own strengths and utilize them to their full potential is the key to growth and personal fulfillment. I walk along side clients and guide them through sessions in the hopes of developing increased self awareness and new insight. Through building a relationship of trust and mutual respect, I provide an empathetic ear to my clients and give them the time and space they need to heal.

It can be so difficult to look for a therapist. Overwhelming even. You might be looking to change the way thoughts consume your time. You could be looking for skills and strategies to cope with stressful situations/circumstances. Or, maybe your worries about the future are becoming unbearable. Whether you find yourself stuck in a dark place, or consumed by worry and anxiety, we can find a place to start and find ways to improve the way you are living your life today. We will work together on whatever goals you may have for therapy at a pace that you are comfortable with.

I like to use puzzles as an analogy or a metaphor to describe our lived experiences. Sometimes it is just difficult to put a puzzle by yourself. There are things you are worried about, you are fearful to think of, or something you have not discovered yet. I am here to help you place the pieces together to understand yourself better. Although it may take some time, or it may not be perfect, you are not alone. You want to find a way to redefine yourself, but you do not know where to begin with or feel drained to try.

Not all Binges are a Choice. The exact cause of BED is unknown, but chemicals in the brain, family history and certain life experiences may play a role in Binge Eating Disorder. BED often begins in the late teens or early 20s. BED affects slightly more women than men. About 40% of those with BED are male. I believe we “know” when our eating behavior is off and that dieting will not resolve the underlying anxiety. There is help, I’ve been there.

Women's Issues Counsellors

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
