I feel like I was born in the construction trades. At a young age I worked at height (Rope Access), in remote areas, and in all environments. I wanted the skills to respond to any emergency at any time, this desire lead me to pre-hospital emergency medicine (EMR), wilderness first-aid, and rope rescue training. My work and personal experiences from this time left me feeling isolated, dreading human interactions, and losing my love of learning and mastering new skills. It was this experience that compelled me to address my own mental health and further lead me to complete a Diploma in Transpersonal Counselling Psychology.

Being a “helper” has always been in my nature. I find a true sense of purpose in knowing I have been of service assisting others in their journey to self improvement, providing an empathetic sounding board, and non-judgemental guidance. I believe that counselling is a collaborative process in which my role is to walk alongside each of my clients, providing them with the emotional support and psycho-educational tools to draw upon the strength & solutions that inherently lie within them. I work with adult individuals, those seeking relationship & marriage counselling, and women during their prenatal/postpartum period.

I appreciate that negative experiences can create the window for change. I am also very mindful that no matter how uncomfortable the journey is, it will lead us into a path of healing that looks different for everyone. I enjoy working with and am extremely passionate about trauma informed methodologies, and incorporate Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy into my practice.

Life can be overwhelming and seeking support is one of the most courageous things people can do. One of my core beliefs is that we are all doing the best we can and, that, with support, we can discover new ways of coping with life's challenges. I strive to create a warm, non-judgmental space for clients. I work from a strength based approach where building on strengths and identifying coping tools and techniques can empower clients to thrive. My approach is also person-centred. This means that I meet you where you are at emotionally and work collaboratively with you to build your confidence, strength and resiliency.

You may be here because you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, are hurting, experiencing depression or anxiety, or are simply feeling ready to step into a growing call for change in your life. Expressive arts therapy is an arts based and somatically informed approach to psychotherapy that connects us to our inner resources. *No experience in or previous knowledge of the arts is required.

My first exposure to counselling came through my experiences as a high school teacher. I taught Social Studies, Psychology, Law, English, Career Education and even a cooking class. Beyond my teaching duties, I was involved in the choir, athletics, and the school drama productions – I was a veritable Swiss Army Knife of education! But, most importantly, I talked to and heard from the kids. I heard from their parents, and I heard from my colleagues as they expressed their day-to-day professional and personal frustrations. I loved teaching, but at some point, my career path shifted from lecturing to listening. I became a counsellor.
