I also provide EMDR consultation to therapists navigating complex trauma cases.
Your body and mind communicate clearly when something has been overwhelming. So many experiences can knock you off kilter and make it hard to feel your genuine self. You have likely landed here because your symptoms have become intrusive. Anxiety, panic attacks and anger are hard to ignore but what about the more subtle signs? Strained relationships, feeling numb, avoidance, dissociation, disconnection and irritability also have a huge impact in your life.

I am certified in Pain Reprocessing Therapy, EMDR and a variety of other evidence-based modalities.
Recovery from pain is possible. Let's start together from understanding YOUR pain and creating a path to wellness that is unique for YOU. I am fascinated by the brain and body connection and the immense possibilities that arise when we open ourselves to learning and understanding how various psychoneurobiological mechanisms work, how our environments and circumstances have shaped us and continue to do so, and how we can harness the power of that understanding towards change. Studies indicate that many chronic pain conditions are often not the result of structural causes, but of psychoneurobiological processes that can be reversed.

EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation which activates the opposite sides of the brain.
Welcome! Anxiety has become one of the most prominent mental health issues in the world. The fast-paced world that we live conditions many of us to believe that high anxiety levels are the norm and while healthy levels of stress can keep us motivated. Excessive and ongoing feelings of anxiety and worry can negatively impact both our health, and our ability to function at an optimal level. Often, these feelings stem from our past and appear in our present – negatively impacting our daily life.

My background in expressive arts therapy, and training in trauma focused modalities such as EMDR, inform my approach to working with the effects of trauma.
Are you feeling overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself and from others? Are you struggling with distressing thoughts and feelings? Are you desiring to understand yourself better and to nourish aspects of yourself that have been dormant? Perhaps you are seeking a space to feel witnessed, supported, and understood. Together, we can explore where you are coming from, what is holding you back, and where you want to go. My experience as a counsellor continues to teach me about the transformative possibilities that exist as we dissolve the sense of aloneness that so many of us feel.

EMDR Counsellors

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
