Specializing in bereavement, traumatic loss and suicide awareness/support.
If we all could have the option to be supported and heard with our struggles, to be connected and cared for, perhaps our ability to move through them and towards our goals would be different. What is it you wish to shift, where would your life be right now? How can I help you get there? If you are a victim of crime you may be eligible for counselling through CVAP. I am an approved CVAP counsellor.

Loss can have many faces: the death of a loved one, relationships ending, changes in your health (or hormones), unfulfilled dreams.
I am passionate about working with women and addressing issues that are standing in the way of you experiencing life from a place of joy, self-love and empowerment. As women we tend to wear many hats such as daughter, mother, spouse, caregiver, career woman. Low self-esteem, co-dependency or inability to say no, feeling responsible, poor body image, fertility issues, sexual abuse or abuse, perfectionism or emotional eating...all these challenges can create stress and overwhelm which can lead to anxiety, depression and more. Pls check out my website www.goddessrevealed.ca for more information about my work.

You're starting to notice that you aren't coping with life so well. Maybe something big has happened lately, like a death, a break-up, or career shift. Maybe you don't know what changed, but you can tell something isn't working. Up until now you avoided it by staying busy and keeping distracted, but you're getting tired of feeling like you have a mask on, pretending you're fine when inside you know you're not okay. You are realizing can't keep this up much longer. You need help turning inward so you can figure out what to do. You don't want to be alone with this anymore.

I have had the privilege to work with a diverse population on issues that included anxiety, depression, trauma, immigration, grief, relationship difficulties, addictions, ENM, and many others.
People tend to feel more satisfied when their actions align with their values, their relationships are based on authenticity, and they are able to meaningfully participate in their communities. As you think about making changes in your life, you may feel stuck, unclear about your goals, overwhelmed by the journey, or affected by unresolved issues and past traumas. It is my goal to help you feel more hopeful, supported, and capable, as well as to provide you with the skills that can help you move forward with more clarity, confidence, and self-compassion.

Over the years I have found successful results when treating: anxiety, depression and mood disorders, substance use and addictions, identity and personality disorders, eating disorders, sexual identity and sexual orientation issues, PTSD, adolescence issues and middle life crisis, grief and loss, co-dependency, couple's conflicts and parenting challenges.
Based on the belief that: "we all have our own answers", I focus my efforts to provide a professional, non judgmental and non critical space, where people can safely engage in a process of self reflection and discovery through which they can increase their self awareness, and learn how to access their own answers and solutions to a wide range of mental health concerns and challenging life situations.

I'm glad you are reaching out. It can be tough finding the right therapist. Relationships can be very tough. Stress, kids, affairs, grief and trauma can create a distance between us and the people we love. We can cause a lot of harm to those closest to us and end up wondering how we got to where we are. This is the focus of my work. There is hope, even when things feel like they are at the very end.

I understand the intensity and challenge of healing from adverse experiences and trauma and I have experienced the challenges associated with transitions. As a queer person, a disaffiliate of conservative evangelicalism, a career shifter, and a childhood trauma survivor, I am all too familiar with the fears, grief and loss, confusion, and pain that come with those experiences. Through counselling, my fears transformed into courage. The grief and loss evolved into hopefulness, the confusion transformed into clarity, and the pain metamorphosed into strength. I believe everyone can experience the same.

You will learn skills to process your grief/losses, anger, hypervigilance, hypertensitivity, flashbacks, nightmares, fears, panic attacks, depression, anxiety and avoidant behaviours.
PTSD or Trauma related to stressful life changes, psychological / emotional / physical childhood abuse, neglect, rejection, abandonment, exploitation, sexual abuse, incest or witnessing family violence could result in experiencing distorted perceptions, emotions, beliefs and meanings about life. Trauma freezes the traumatic experience in the nervous system creating unhelpful thinking, negative self-assessment, and self-defeating / self-sacrificing behaviours. These conditions can affect your capacity to tolerate and adapt to life's ups and downs; to break old patterns that hold you back; to avoid engaging in risky behaviours/situations; and to avoid re-enacting your past traumas over and over.

Have you recently given birth? Have you suffered a loss? Are you feeling traumatized after your birth experience or feeling overwhelmed and scared navigating the fourth trimester. Are postpartum symptoms taking over? Feeling detached from your spouse, stressed, sleep deprived, self conscious or not like yourself is very unsettling. You feel as though you dont have anyone to talk to; friends and family don't truly understand what you are experiencing. You might be hiding your true thoughts and feelings about how everything you are living through is affecting you.

I am a bicultural therapist and my clients relate to me because they look for someone who appreciates what it's like to be inside of cultural and generational divides. I have over 5 years of experience working with professionals, parents, and students on issues related to trauma, immigration, family dynamics, and unacknowledged grief. Unacknowledged grief is what that doesn't fit our society's expectations: grief of relocating, of surviving disasters, of change. What makes me different from most therapists, is that I am passionate about helping people navigate the "other" relationships: friendships and workplace dynamics.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
