I use integrated approaches to address the client’s unique needs mainly: Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a number of experience working with people struggling with various mental health issues including but not limited to; trauma, addiction, emotion dysregulation, and relationships. I believe in humans’ natural tendency to ‘bounce back’ from distressing life events. Often, perception of our inner strengths gets clouded due to prolonged stress, and we give up living a life we truly deserve. In my practice, I work together with my clients as a team to redefine their strengths and help them achieve their sense of well- being and self worth.

At times when we seek counselling, we aren’t totally sure what the ‘problem’ is, we just know our current realities don’t feel fully fulfilling. Other times, we can identify what the ‘issue’ may be, but feel stuck around how to move forward. Counselling therapy is effective in both scenarios, and works to bring both insight and solutions into an individual’s life. Many people looking for a counsellor are seeking a change in their lives, at times wondering if a different reality is possible. Let’s use our time together to bridge the gap between your current reality and a more fulfilling future.

Nowadays, we are living in a world that is so advanced yet in many ways leave us feeling stressed and inadequate. if you are struggling with Anxiety, Depression, Difficult relationships, Career Dissatisfaction, Self Limiting Habits and Self Sabotage, you are not alone. Often times these issues show up in our experiences as Fear, Anger, Resentment, Sadness, Weight Gain, Addictive Habits, Fatigue, Sleepiness or Sleeplessness, Headaches, Phobias and many more. Where are you right now? Are you tired of seeking? Change can be paralyzing but the only way to get to the direction you want is to take that first step in spite of the fear.

Life can be really challenging. I believe that everyone has a unique story and I consider it a gift to be able to work with clients to pursue healing, wellness and fullness as they navigate through life’s challenges. For the past 12 years I have been helping people work through trauma and both the past and present impact this can have on us. I have personally dealt with anxiety for over 20 years so I understand the challenges that can come with overall mental health. Through the years I have accumulated many tools and techniques to help overcome the stressors of everyday life.

People tend to feel more satisfied when their actions align with their values, their relationships are based on authenticity, and they are able to meaningfully participate in their communities. As you think about making changes in your life, you may feel stuck, unclear about your goals, overwhelmed by the journey, or affected by unresolved issues and past traumas. It is my goal to help you feel more hopeful, supported, and capable, as well as to provide you with the skills that can help you move forward with more clarity, confidence, and self-compassion.

I invite you practice a few deep breaths as you reflect on aspects of your journey that led you to this page. Have you been feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed? Exhausted or drained? Perhaps seeking to to learn new coping tools or wanting to develop your self-care practices? When we bottle up emotions and feel disconnected to both ourselves and others it can be difficult to access healing, recovery, and growth. Counselling can provide a space to press pause from busyness or turmoil. Seeking a safe space to rest. reflect, and to feel restored.

Hiya! Welcome! My approach to counselling is to create a meaningful connection and a safe space where you can engage in self exploration, free of judgement, through person centred, and trauma-informed approaches. In a world of information overload, I try to slow it down and explore inner thoughts and sensations that don't always have the opportunity to express themselves, while also looking for patterns along the way to help make sense of it all. I view you as the expert in your life, and my job is to ask you the right questions and help you reflect.

We all have unfinished business - those life experiences that have not been adequately processed or resolved have a lasting presence in our lives. Counselling gives us the opportunity to explore the role our unfinished business is playing in our lives currently. This exploration looks different for everyone but the destination looks similar - an increased sense of self, better awareness of your needs, and the ability to challenge the roadblocks that have been getting in the way of your healing.

Traumatic past, no matter how recent or ancient - can be blocking you from what you truly want in life. Traumatic memories have no time stamp - therefore, they come up randomly and seem to always be present. These memories are stored in their original state which means they bring the same feelings each and every time they come up. Managing post-traumatic reactions takes so much effort that it seems like there is no resource left for anything else and life becomes an endless race against the trauma.

Life is challenging and difficult at times. It can create distress that affects every part of who we are: our thoughts, feelings, physical well-being and spirit, upsetting our ability to be effective with ourselves, others and manage the demands of our daily life. When we decide to reach out for help, we are acting courageously. Particularly if we do not have the energy or believe that things can be better. I am passionate about helping people. I work to understand the world from your point of view and help you gain a sense of balance and confidence to make positive changes in your life.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Counsellors

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behaviour and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behaviour, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioural change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behaviour; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
