What works well for one person may not work as well for another! I have years of experience working with both teenagers and adults in correctional and community settings.
Welcome! It should come as no surprise that life can have its challenges. Whether you are dealing with stress related to work or school, relationship difficulties with a partner or family member, a desire to improve your current mood, or you are experiencing some other issue that is negatively impacting your overall mental well-being, it is not something that needs to be managed alone! I provide a safe space for individuals to help them gain a better understanding of their current struggles, emphasizing unconditional acceptance, without judgment.

I enjoy working with adults who want to make a change in their life. The change might be to lessen stress or anxiety, build self awareness or develop new tools in relationships. Therapy offers a rare opportunity to have life changing conversations and being a part of that is very exciting.

I help teens, adults, couples and families understand and manage the root cause of their anxiety. People often spend a great deal of time trying to find the why. "Why am I so anxious in social settings?" Why does anxiety make my body feel this way?" "Why is my child okay at home but anxious at school?" I believe knowledge is power and having productive solutions and strategies result from asking How. "How do I manage the anxiety?" "How do I get myself to do things that are important to me?" "How do I support someone else with their anxiety?" I show and teach what to do differently.

I am a Registered Psychologist (since 1995) with training and experience in clinical (& forensic) psychology. I provide caring & compassionate therapy using the most effective therapies that are matched to your needs. Psychotherapy involves developing a therapeutic relationship in which you feel at ease, set goals, and choose methods to achieve these goals. People tend to overcome or manage issues after they develop understanding of what is amiss, develop motivation (if needed), learn healthy expression of emotion, and learn to examine and confront thoughts and emotions while practicing new behaviours.

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”- Aristotle. My goal is to assist my clients in discovering the versions of themselves they aspire to become. In doing so, I work with my clients to understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours so that they can go forward and make changes that can improve their lives meaningfully and positively. My passion is to help my clients to feel supported, validated, and understood, with a more precise grasp of their challenges and everything that goes along. Trying to cope with the pressures and stresses of life leaves us anxious, depressed, and disconnected from ourselves and others. Many of us fall into self-sabotaging behaviours or repeat unhealthy relationships. Many of us face the limitations of psychiatric treatment and are forced to carry the weight and stigma of diagnosis. Many of us struggle simply to maintain our creativity and our sense of self against overwhelming pressures to conform or perform. We all need the chance to check in and process our feelings and reactions, to work through the struggles of our personal history, and find new and creative ways to move forward.

The most important element in any counselling relationship is the development of a trusting, therapeutic alliance. Together, we can pinpoint the obstacles that prevent you from thriving and develop strategies to remove them. Healing can be complex, and everyone's experience is different. I don't apply a "cookie cutter" approach to my practice. My core belief is that we all have strengths of which we are sometimes unaware. Whether your healing journey relates to trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship stress, low self-esteem or addiction, I will be a committed partner in it. You are not alone.

I do not believe that there is a single approach to counselling. I like to collaborate with clients to create a personalized treatment plan and "toolkit" of coping mechanisms. My goal as a therapist is to lead with compassion and genuineness; I believe in teamwork where clients guide me through their life experiences and I offer gentle and honest feedback, explaining the rationale behind suggested interventions. I feel that this balance of warmth, direction, and authenticity contributes to a strong working relationship.

Situations can come up that are overwhelming and debilitating; this does not mean you are weak or lesser than for struggling with your mental health. My approach is to work on a style of therapy most applicable to you. For these reasons and more I don't rely on one tool or model of therapy. My method is to trickle in different areas of psychology simultaneously. If something isn't working for you we implement another strategy. The goal is to get to the heart of what is distressing you and what is preventing you from living a life more in line with your goals and values.
