In addition, provide family counselling.
I believe in a non-judgemental person centered form of counselling. In particular, I work with children and youth who identify as neurodivergent. Together with parent(s)/and/or caregiver(s) I provide support and care for the daunting challenges that can occur when a person is neurodivergent. I have been working in the school system for over 21 years. I have experience working with children and youth from ages 5-17 as a support teacher and school counsellor. I understand the importance of providing a safe, caring, and secure relationship with all students but particularly with neurodiverse children.

As an RCC, my practice is focused on helping individuals, couples, and families who feel stuck and powerless, and desire to move forward on their healing journey with a positive mindset. With warmth, empathy, and concern, I work with adults and youth with mental health concerns stemming from childhood trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, and relational trauma, and women who are victims of gender-based violence. I provide counselling to address the impact of trauma that manifests as self-esteem issues, addictions, BPD, family issues, grief and loss, and bicultural identity crises, acculturative stress, and life transitions.

For over 20 years we have been passionate about aiding the growth of individuals, couples, and adult family members - supporting them to experience loving, kind, conscious relationships with themselves and others.
Do you find yourself stuck in painful patterns that limit you and your life? Do you struggle in your relationships with your partner, family or others? Do you feel anxiety, depression, or other feelings that impact your enjoyment of life, relationships or career? Many areas of our lives can sometimes feel difficult. When we are unable to find ways through these moments, we can be left disappointed, confused, and frustrated.

My past experience working in addictions has given me a deep understanding of trauma and the impacts of family patterns of dysfunction.
You deserve to feel good about yourself. Even if that feels completely impossible right now. Even if a mean little gremlin of an inner critic has been telling you otherwise, maybe for your whole life. So many things get in the way when it comes to how we feel about ourselves and our lives - stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, dysfunctional relationships, toxic work environments, isolation, etc. It can feel like a million boulders piling up on top of you until you can't even see which way is up. I've been there and counselling was one of the things that helped me find the light again. The journey is easier with support.

I use a strength-based, solution-focused, client-centred practice that draws from Internal Family Systems.
Modern life is very challenging and there are many reasons that might have brought you here looking for counselling. Whether you are dealing with a crisis, at a crossroads, or you just want to heighten your wellbeing, the hardest step can be making the move and reaching out. We can be struggling with the challenges of daily life, big transitions, unmet expectations, difficult relationships, and past trauma. Maybe you struggle with anxiety, people pleasing, having a hard time setting boundaries and saying no. You might be using coping methods that aren’t as effective as they once were.

Let me pour you a cup of warm tea or coffee, while we sit & talk. Therapy doesn’t have to be a daunting, scary or lonely process. Together, we'll sit & look at your past experiences, how they're affecting you today & what you can do to move towards a life where you feel more fulfilment & happiness, while bringing calm & peace in the process. We aren't meant to surrender to conflict ridden relationships, or to live a life where our grief or past traumas keep us from from truly living or feeling alone. Relationships with our parents, partners, family, friends or coworkers don't have to leave us frustrated & doubting ourselves.

I specialize in helping children aged 0-12, along with their families. When kiddos experience trauma, their brains do their best to keep them safe, but this often results in behaviours and circumstances that are very challenging. I take a systems-level approach, speaking with family members, school teams, doctors, and whoever else I am given consent to collaborate with, so that all of us can be on the same page about interventions and strategies. If a child sees all of the adults in their world working together to care for them, they thrive. It takes a village to help a family. I hope you'll consider me for your village!

Not all Binges are a Choice. The exact cause of BED is unknown, but chemicals in the brain, family history and certain life experiences may play a role in Binge Eating Disorder. BED often begins in the late teens or early 20s. BED affects slightly more women than men. About 40% of those with BED are male. I believe we “know” when our eating behavior is off and that dieting will not resolve the underlying anxiety. There is help, I’ve been there.

Perhaps you've experienced trauma or difficult relationships, or maybe you are looking for more out of your life and can't seem to find your way. Whether you're navigating personal relationships, learning to love yourself more fully, or trying to make sense of your own mental health, I can help. "Troubled? Then stay with me, for I am not." - Hafez

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
