It takes a lot of support to navigate life transitions on a "good" day - even more so when faced with unmet expectations, infertility, loss, medical concerns, relationship discord or postpartum anxiety and depression.
Sometimes the life we imagined and the reality of the moment we are living, don't line up. This can create some pretty big feelings that might take us by surprise. We might feel stuck, isolated, uncertain and not like our "usual" selves. I work with individuals and couples who are bumping up against unexpected challenges in creating/growing their family, difficulty within pre and postpartum stages and beyond, into the early years of parenting. My clients also include those who might be navigating chronic health concerns, caregiver burnout and compassion fatigue. Reach out for a free consult to see how we may work together.

Bringing in curiosity and compassion to the painful patterns that seem to repeat in life is a great first step in building a new relationship with yourself, where you become your own ally.
If you are feeling lost, disconnected or uncertain about life, you will find a safe space with me to explore your challenges in life with a supportive, empathic listener. Modern living is inherently stressful, and many resort to using unhealthy coping strategies that can get you stuck; by getting curious about the stuck-ness together, we can work together to untangle the knots and shift back into your natural state of wholeness. If you have lost your centre, feel reactive or unbalanced by the demands of life you will benefit from counselling. I will help you return to your core Self and find passion and purpose in life.

I aim to be present and interactive with you, helping you to discover the relationship you have with yourself and others.
I completely understand that the thought of going to a counsellor can be intimidating.  While working with my clients I help them so they can communicate their thoughts and feelings and know that they are being understood and not judged. Each individual I meet have a unique history and cultural backgrounds that shape their life experiences. I work with my clients to explore what’s on their mind I aim to provide a safe space, non-judgmental, and trusting environment so that through self-understanding my clients are able to discover effective ways of supporting themselves.

You're likely here searching for a therapist because you're struggling with something or someone. Perhaps anxiety or depression have become too much to manage on your own. At Sojourn we believe everyone has the capacity for change and positive growth.

We all need to be heard, especially when we’re struggling or hurting. When we are really heard, we are given the opportunity to explore our past and present, and focus on our challenges. The insight that follows allows us to address the feeling of being stuck rather than getting caught up in the judgement of others. The space created in therapy provides a safe place to explore who we are, identify our patterns, gain a better understanding of what makes us unique, and allows us to make changes. This is accomplished by building a trusting relationship between the client and therapist in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Therapy is a unique relationship where you can learn about yourself, your past, and who you would like to be, through a process of analysis, discussion, acceptance, and integration. A therapeutic relationship is a space where you can speak openly and freely with a person who is trained to listen and provide insight otherwise not available to you. As a therapist, I meet you where you are at as a person, and try to understand your goals, your background, and your pain. The process is meant to lead to greater interior freedom, that can reverberate out into all aspects of your life.

There is nothing more beautiful to me than the rawness of the human spirit. No matter who we are, where we are from or where we go next, we carry narratives about ourselves that impact our experiences and the way we show up in the world. Humans are social beings, which means that the condition of our relationships directly influences our quality of life & overall wellness. However, many of us were never taught the importance of nurturing a strong and healthy relationship with the self, first. Without this relationship, we may be left wondering who we are, what matters most, and how to let go of what no longer serves us.

During our work together, I will provide the space for you to re-construct your self-concept and understand your stress and your relationship patterns.
Life conflicts, trauma, and stress can steer us away from our core; it can also prevent us from living our best lives. Honoring your story and understanding how all of these hardships can impact your everyday life and your choices and life decisions is one of the effective ways to look inside ourselves. It will also provide you with a clear picture of what you are not satisfied with, what makes you stressed, and if your social relationships work for you or not.

The clients I work with understand that there is a spiritual thread that weaves beneath the surface of their lives, and they are seeking guidance on how to re-connect to this important aspect of who they are. I commonly work with fertility struggles, grief processing, depression, overwhelm, addictions, anxiety, relationship conflict, eating disorders, low self esteem, trust issues, and clients who are simply unhappy with the current state of their life. Ultimately, my clients are searching for balance between the mind, body and spirit aspects of self, which when in alignment, can lead to a heart-centered, joyful, fulfilling life.

Many of our negative experiences in life are characterized by a real or perceived sense of being alone. Perhaps you grew up in a family that didn't know how to connect, or you found yourself in a role as a kid that should never have been yours to fill. Pain can be the result of both what happens to us and what never happened, but needed to. These painful experiences impact our sense of safety and belonging in the world, in relationship, and with ourselves. Therapy can be a place where we begin to better understand how our history has shaped us and contributes to the struggles we're facing today.

In some seasons of life, it can take immense strength to just put on a brave face and survive the day. It is all too easy to get trapped in states of survival, and when we are in them, we are left with the nagging feeling that something is missing. Often, we find ourselves stuck in patterns we don't like, feel lost attempting to analyze what to do or ruminating on our past mistakes. This experience can manifest symptomatically as anxiety, depression, lack of focus, procrastination, substance misuse, isolation, relationship challenges, or struggling to find reason to get out of bed in the morning.

There are many times in one person's life where one seeks support and information with resolving personal and psychological difficulties. Seeking counselling at this time will help break isolation and improve coping more effectively and quickly. Finding a good fit with someone is important to the success of the journey. I am trained in Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) where a client directs the counselling relationship by the feedback they provide. I believe in the right FIT and relationship between client and counsellor to be of great importance in helping a client in counselling.

This means I place a strong emphasis on developing a relationship with clients that allows them to feel safe, heard and supported as they explore areas of their life, themselves and their relationships.
My passion for counselling came from both personal and professional experience in asking for support and supporting others. I believe connection to others, along with a safe non-judgemental space to be heard can allow us to begin the journey in growth, healing and self exploration. I believe all our emotions, behaviours, and thoughts serve a purpose – even those we perceive as negative- and that by understanding that purpose, we can better understand ourselves and our relationships.

It might mean learning to set boundaries, working through a loss, relationship change or life transition, or changing a pattern of behaviour that is keeping you stuck.
Do you struggle with feeling disconnected from yourself and others? Do you put your needs last and focus on others? Do you question if life should feel somehow better? You are not alone here. My approach is client-focused, collaborative and optimistic, I view each person as an individual within a family system and can help with difficulties impacting clients biologically, psychologically, socially and spiritually. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long-term challenges for your mind and body. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a better life.

I am completely committed to the therapeutic relationship between myself and my clients.
I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community and a Registered Clinical Counsellor licensed in British Columbia. Working with me you’ll begin to discover your unique sense of self that will help you navigate life's challenges with grounded confidence. I combine evidence-based interventions to help you build a personal 'tool kit' to approach your mental health needs on a regular basis. Overall, my clients notice an increase in psychological resiliency; an increase in confidence and self-direction; and a decreased desire to please others in a way that they lose themselves in the process.
