My work is trauma-informed, grounded in a Person-Centred and strength-based approach, and incorporates an attachment lens, body-orientated work, mindfulness, and self-compassion.
When I reached out to a counsellor for the first time, I felt stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, and utterly exhausted. I was struggling to move forward. It took a couple of tries to find the right fit, but when I did, it was feeling truly seen, understood, and trusted that helped me develop the self-understanding and insight to navigate those next steps. My purpose as a counsellor is to support clients as they develop a sense of clarity, authenticity, and ownership on their unique path, whatever that may be, so they can experience a more fulfilling life and come to a place of greater peace within themselves.

I use a blend of EMDR, CBT, DBT, self-compassion, mindfulness practices and inner child work to help clients resolve past challenges and move towards the life they want to live.
Healing is one of the bravest choices we can make for ourselves. My experience in working with clients who have lived through trauma has afforded me a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection, and how we can struggle to live full and connected lives when we are out of sync with our needs and values. I hope to support clients in resolving challenges by building upon their strengths and tools. From my own lived history, I also take special interest in working with issues around acculturation, identity, and cultural and spiritual abuse.

Ever since I incorporated self-compassion and mindfulness into my own life, I have responded to challenges in my life with kindness and understanding towards myself.
There are times where the challenges we face in our daily lives become too difficult to manage on our own. I can help navigate those who are looking to add meaning and purpose to their lives, generating motivation, and regaining control. The ability to achieve wellness and stability in our lives, exists somewhere inside of us. The disconnection we experience from the things that bring us happiness and joy may cause us to feel overwhelmed and paralyzed by stress. My aim is to provide a supportive, non-judgemental, and safe environment to help support you through life’s difficulties that may have you feeling stuck and under pressure.

I use a strengths based integrative approach to therapy, with an emphasis on emotionally focused, mindfulness, person-centred modalities, and cognitive behavioural.
The process of self-learning and connecting to our stories to make sense of our experiences, can be challenging and uncomfortable. In this journey, we can experience many difficult realties. You may find yourself lost and overwhelmed, while carrying the immense heaviness of these struggles. Therapy can be a transformative tool to support you in this journey. It is a profound honour to support children and adults foster their healing and make space for their collective emotions so they may engage in life with a larger capacity. My intention is to provide a safe therapeutic place where your voice is supported.

With over 7 years of experience supporting individuals and families, I offer a holistic, trauma-informed approach, where I incorporate family theories, and attachment theories, along with DBT, ACT, EMDR, Neurofeedback, and mindfulness techniques.
Seeking help is not always easy. Not knowing what to say, worrying about being a burden, fear of being judged or rejected…the list is endless. It takes a lot of courage to ask for help because we will have to put ourselves in a vulnerable place, where we surrender control. I believe vulnerability is the key to any close relationship. And here you are, bravely taking the first step towards the journey of healing and reconnection. Congratulations! Now that you have chosen to reflect on the past and move forward, I hope to have the honour of providing a safe and welcoming space for you to let the healing begin.

I primarily draw on elements from emotion-focused therapies, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), AEDP, and parts work.
I hold the belief that humans are naturally wired to heal. Throughout our lives, we find ourselves overwhelmed with external circumstances and internal emotional states that may pull us away from living a rich, values-based life. I primarily work with clients on concerns related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, boundaries, emotional distress, intersecting identities, and relationship concerns. My goal is to create a collaborative environment and pull on the body's natural healing tendencies to build a relationship with the Self. I am committed to using a person-centered, holistic, and culturally-responsive approach.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Counsellors

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behaviour through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviours and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioural habits.
