I am a registered clinical counsellor and am registered with the Crime Victim Assistance Program. I use a trauma informed approach in counselling, while also implementing person centred, narrative, EMDR and emotionally focused techniques to treat a variety of client concerns. I value the client-counsellor relationship and make every effort to ensure I demonstrate congruency with the experiences of my clients. I strongly believe in the empowerment that comes from increasing personal voice.

Are you walking through life with a feeling that something's not quite right, or that your life doesn't look the way you want it? Are you noticing that you don't live up to your full potential, and your dreams and desires are on hold for some reason? If you find yourself at a crossroads, longing for more, but unsure of how to break free from what's holding you back, you're not alone. I'm someone who has personally walked the path of healing and transformation.

Clients who are looking for ways to make sense of their current communication, values, and coping mechanisms will find the space to do that here. Working through past experiences can help improve relationships, access to a positive sense of self, workplace concerns, and communication. My goal for my clients is to work together through past trauma and come to gain the insights and tools to examine behaviours independently.

Leonard Cohen wrote ‘Everything that is beautiful is cracked - that’s how the light gets in’. I believe his words capture how our past hurt, disappointment, worry, loss, anger and fear become our very tools of learning. Our trying times help us to become a little more humble and compassionate. Counselling offers a safe environment in which to express your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Releasing pain, regrets, resentments; offering a fresh start, a chance to unlearn and relearn from experiences when you thought that all hope was lost. In fact, many who wander are not lost, they are merely searching for a different path.

Accepting new clients - Does your appearance or relationship with food consumes your day to day? Do you often worry what others think of you? Or rarely feel like enough? I support clients who struggle with eating disorders (like anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating), food restriction, emotional eating, overexercising, body image, and self-esteem. I know the path to recovery can feel scary. And... what lies on the other side of recovery is worth it. In an effort to shrink ourselves, we also end up shrinking our lives. It's my hope throughout counselling you feel comfortable taking up space, so you can experience more of life.

ARE YOU A TEEN, OR A PARENT OF A TEEN? Are you feeling challenged, misunderstood, or feeling pressure in teenagehood? Or are you are parent who is challenged by your teen? Depression, anger, and anxiety are common feelings that can be running the show for teens and parents during this developmental stage of teenagehood, and can feel overwhelming. Staying trapped in the same fights, frustrations, anxieties, and unhappiness is a harmful cycle that can have lasting effects.

We are human and challenges arise for each of us. Counselling can be a means of support a way to heal from past experiences and to plan for the future. There are many reasons people access counselling. The most common reasons are: depression or anxiety, relationship issues, social isolation, body issues, motivation, parenting, substance use, a traumatic experience, academic challenges, an inability to identify feeling, and needing to talk to an impartial person. The list is quite diverse and these are only the most common reasons. I am here to work alongside you and draw from my professional experiences and training to bring more balance, joy, and health into your life.

In my practice, I work with adults struggling with various issues from anxiety, depression and eating issues, to trauma, grief and relationship difficulties. We all have our own history of experiences, and we tend to react in specific ways under stress. While our response was likely our best option in the past, it may not be adaptive now. I can help you resolve past traumas, learn to accept what is, and move forward from there - developing ways to a fuller and more satisfying life.

i believe that you deserve to be held with the same attentiveness and care that you offer to your clients, and that you deserve to feel resourced and supported as you go about you work. i know how difficult it can be to make time for our own healing in the midst of so many competing demands on our time, or within organizational structures that pressure us to keep showing up despite feeling burnt out or overwhelmed. i want to hold a space where you can show up authentically, just as you are, without the pressure of caring for others. i want to support you in re-connecting to the passion that brought you to this work.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
