With a deep understanding of trauma-informed care and a commitment to ethical practice, I offer a safe and supportive space for therapists and clients alike to explore the healing potential of psychedelics as a self-exploration or within a medically supervised situation. Hello! I’m Felicia, and I believe that people are astonishing, resilient beings who have the power to heal, grow, and reach fulfillment in life. Life stressors and negative past experiences can lead us to experience inner turmoil and cause us to question our decisions, feel adrift, and lose hope. It can be exhausting and overwhelming to navigate life while holding these experiences. I am passionate about helping those experiencing anxiety, depression and other challenges to improve life balance.

I have a Bachelor and Master's Degree in Social Work from UBC and over 23 years experience helping others with mental health, addictions, and relationship issues in a variety of health care, community and social service settings. When you come in for counselling support, I start by creating a relaxed atmosphere where you feel safe and reassured that you've found someone who can help you truly face the issues you're experiencing. Sometimes, the stress of life can be overwhelming and your world becomes very narrow.

Do you find yourself circling around the same issues, or struggling to overcome one particular problem, despite a lot of effort to change? I get how exhausting and sometimes hopeless that place can feel. I work with my clients to drill to the core of what is perpetuating current issues, so that together we create not just coping, but healing. By treating problems at this root level, clients often report having a sense of freedom beyond what they've experienced before. I utilize a combination of therapeutic techniques, however my specialization is in Accelerate Resolution Therapy (ART).

I have always enjoyed connecting with and learning from others; this has driven my passion for mental health support for many years. Before completing my Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work, I worked with my local rural fire department as a paid-on-call firefighter for nearly 8 years. I was consistently humbled throughout my experiences by the resilience and camaraderie engrained in first responder culture. I believe in the importance of having clinicians who 'get what we do', ultimately leading me to combine two of my passions (firefighting & mental health) and become one.

I consider both top-down (brain retraining) and bottom-up (somatic) evidence-based modalities to help you overcome the effects of stress, trauma, and chronic illness symptoms and come back into balance and health.
My approach to psychotherapy is balanced and holistic, which gets to the root of my clients' chronic stress, depression, overeating, fatigue, anxiety, and nervous system imbalances and aims for their overall wellness. I have a background in wellness and disability management and over a decade of experience working in mental health. In my work, I use trauma-informed, neuroscience-based interventions that go beyond talk therapy. I will teach you to gain a deeper understanding of your nervous system processes, help regulate your emotions and physical reactions, and retrain your brain so it changes its unhelpful responses to stress.

As a Certified Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Supervisor, I believe every person has a right to share their story. I provide a safe environment where people can process and gain the insights and awareness they are seeking. I deal with the root issue(s), not just the symptoms of the problems that are presented. Many have no where to turn and feel trapped in their issues, whether shame, fear, loneliness, anger, or hurt. These feelings are often deep-rooted and have not been recognized, acknowledged and shared with someone non-judgmental. As we share our life stories with someone objective we are able to find the healing we need.

How does therapy for chronic illness work?

Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?

Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?

No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?

There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
