As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, family lawyer, family mediator and parenting coordinator, I am acutely aware that relationships don't end, they change; especially the case when children are involved. As a therapeutic Counsellor I support individuals, couples and families to actively manage change to lead more fulfilling lives, regardless of whether they live in one or two households. I have a particular interest in therapeutic mediation and remediating family conflict to improve quality of life; as a lawyer I have a particular interest in the dynamics of parental alienation www.silverstonecounselling.ca www.pricestephenslaw.ca

My therapeutic approach is grounded in a relational approach, incorporating elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment-Based Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and EMDR.
Hello, and welcome! My name is Taylor and I have a passion for supporting individuals through various life challenges. Over the last few years, I have dedicated myself to guiding children, families, and adults through traumatic and challenging experiences, discovering along the way the remarkable resilience and wisdom each person possesses. Life often presents us with obstacles that can hinder our pursuit of fulfilling relationships, careers, or milestones. When we feel these pressures it can be easy to fall into protective habits that may inhibit us from pursuing and achieving our goals.

Whether you need support through a significant life event, you're having unkind thoughts about yourself or others and want to work through them, or you are just generally feeling unwell and want to regain balance – therapy allows someone to walk with you on that journey. You may have days where you feel low, nervous, unmotivated, or lost. Those can get in the way of your enjoyment, your relationships, or you just being at your best. I work with individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds, placing intentional focus on folks who identify within the IBPOC, queer, gay/lesbian, trans, and other underserved communities.

Perhaps you are here because you need relief from your pain and disparagement and you long for the joy and peace you see others living with. Grief, trauma, anxiety, broken relationships, and disconnection with those you love most is exhausting. With more than just relief for your symptoms, I believe that you can overcome your current difficulties, redefine your relationships, and cultivate the best version of yourself. There has been much research garnered around neuroscience, trauma, and attachment that gives us insight into real interventions and strategies to help individuals heal, grow, and live in a place of discovery and hope.

Life can brings unexpected changes: Relationships come to an end; There may be Infidelity, failure, and disappointments. For those who value spirituality and faith there is a loss of hope. Alcohol and/or drug issues take control. If any of this resonates with you it may be a good time to consider counselling. I have a passion for people who struggle with chronic anxiety, aging gracefully, faith issues, addictions, depression, and relationship strife. I also have good understanding of the complicated world of blended families, those who struggle with work/family balance, and men who struggle with gaming/porn addictions.

Male mental health challenges such as depression, relationship conflict and anxiety are not that much different than women's. These challenges can hold us in place, in fear, in hopelessness, in pain. Confronting behaviours, thinking and feelings that may be the root of a life not lived well takes courage. Sometimes we need help doing that to move us forward and improve the quality of our life. You may be struggling on your own or in a relationship. It doesn't matter neither place feels good. My intent is to help you navigate the obstacles and make sense of your story so you can get to where you want to be sooner.

For many, the times we find ourselves in are overwhelming. Local to global issues magnify a sense that they will be never ending. Along with your personal concerns, perhaps you've struggled a long time to manage the despair, pain and confusion; feeling alone with it all. In trying times, we need others more than ever. Pain requires attention that heals it, not the kind that perpetuates it. We can do a lot on our own, but we don't heal alone. When no courage is felt, is exactly the time to reach for acceptance and support. Connection is basic human instinct. Now is your time. Make the call you deeply long to.

We all tell ourselves stories about who we are and how we fit into the world. Sometimes, these ways we have of talking to ourselves can become problematic and affect our internal wellbeing, anxiety, relationships, and emotional health. I have a special interest in working with you to explore your internal narratives and identities to help you find ways to create a more positive and cohesive sense of self. I am also uniquely invested in working with teens and young adults. My focus is in the areas of identity formation and trauma recovery including sexual, religious, childhood, and physical traumas.

I find joy in supporting people in various stages of life; in particular, those who have decided to heal longstanding wounds from childhood trauma and want to process their past and find peace. I also love supporting women in their post partum period, who are experiencing anxiety and/or depression. I have a particular passion for working with adolescents and young adults with mental health issues, who are exploring and developing their identity.

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor with an M.D, I offer my clients more than just remarkable qualifications and a warm, welcoming environment - I provide effective strategies and perceptive insights developed from over 15 years of experience. It is the journey from hopelessness to hope, and then finally to the joy of a changed reality that makes my job truly rewarding. As a therapist, I don't guarantee an easy fix to the challenges you face, but I can promise it will be easier if we share the load and it carry it towards a solution together.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
