*CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS - ONLINE ONLY** Life can be unpredictable and challenging, which often causes uncomfortable emotions, anxiety, and changes in mood. This is also common when we transition though different stages of life, and it can impact our self-identity. This is really common as we age into new phases of life and our roles, responsibilities, and expectations change. Not only are these life events challenging for us, they are challenging for the people around us to adapt to as well.

People often come to therapy with hopes of feeling happier and more fulfilled, yet the process of change can be frightening and uncomfortable. I want my clients to feel they are in the driver's seat, with access to the brake and gas. I am the passenger with the road map. I will guide their healing journey but they choose the direction and pace.
I truly believe the only thing more frightening than 'change' is the status quo. Why settle? You deserve more!

Each person’s experiences can only be witnessed and felt from their own perspective. I recognize that every person has an innate human need to be heard, witnessed, respected, and honored in those experiences. The focus of my practice is to honor every individual's unique feelings, circumstances, and experiences without interpreting them. My goal is to find the deepest meanings to their experiences. I want to help them heal from those experiences and help them to integrate them into becoming empowered to live their fullest lives.

The concentration of my practice is working with families who are experiencing conflict, difficult emotions, and/or concerning behaviors. How should we react or respond? What can we do to help and support? How do we make sense of these big emotions and behaviors? I work with individuals and families through a systemic approach that strives to develop empathy and understanding and answer these important questions. The core of my practice explores safety and trust using an attachment lens. Through these explorations, I have been helpful in fostering significant growth within relationships and family units.

Experiencing emotional, psychological, and interpersonal distress causes many people to feel isolated and alone. People need to feel connected and known to heal and grow. We are designed to seek belonging and acceptance from our community and when we experience adversity, trauma, or abuse we are robbed of that sense of connection and belonging. Our nervous system senses threats all around us, leading to further isolation and loneliness. The wisdom for healing lies within each person, sometimes we all need a little help to recognize it.

I have been a counsellor for over 30 years and work diligently in creating a warm, safe environment to address all personal issues. Clients share their personal concerns and learn different ways of coping with the stresses in their lives. My expertise includes individual; marital/couple and child counselling. Areas such as child/parent conflicts; divorce adjustment; step-family/ blended family issues. Anxiety and depression hamper us to be fully aware and 'make us stuck;' learn new ways of coping with these debilitating conditions. One of my areas of strength is completing VIEW OF THE CHILD Reports for Court; necessary during family separation.

Sexual Abuse Counsellors
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
