I believe every person is the expert of their life. I provide a safe environment where people can process and gain the insights and awareness they are seeking. Many of us feel trapped in shame, guilt, fear, loneliness, anger, and hurt and we become our own harshest critic. These feelings are often unconscious, deep-rooted and have not been recognized, acknowledged and shared with someone non-judgmental. Well-intentioned family members, friends and co-workers offer advice and support in ways that can inhibit our healing process. As we share our life stories with someone objective we are able to heal ourselves.

As a holistic counsellor and hypnotherapist I provide support to you for loss, life transitions, anxiety, stress, grief and depression. As each person is unique I am very interested in understanding the bigger picture of who you are, not just the issue. Together in counselling, hypnotherapy or both I will tailor an approach that it’s maximally effective and relevant for you. Hypnotherapy and breath work can be used to benefit those who have anxiety, stress and sleep issues.

Life is hard. As human beings we need connection and are not meant to navigate life alone. The relieving reality is that we don’t have to. I offer specialized counselling for individuals facing challenges with eating disorders, body dissatisfaction and problematic substance use. I provide support for a wide array of other challenges too, such as life transitions, relationship issues, maternal mental health and faith deconstruction. I work with clients as they learn to better understand themselves and their emotions, take better care of their nervous systems, recognize their innate value and worth and ultimately reclaim their power.

Do you feel stressed or overwhelmed with life? Many people who seek counselling support are feeling exhausted by negative internal thoughts. You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, body image issues or low self-esteem. I've been there too. I want you to know that there is hope and having someone to listen and support in the middle of our struggles can make all the difference.

Before I try to impress you with credentials, accomplishments and experience, I want to introduce myself on a personal level. I love change. I love helping people create their change. I am passionate about seeing people make good decisions from well thought out options and choices. Helping people see the same, sometimes long term, problem in a different light or from a different angle is exciting for me. New, different and out of the ordinary usually leads to feeling, thinking and acting “another way”. When people stop doing what does not work or make adjustments of any size and level, then improvement is inevitable.

If you are reading this, I wonder what it is that you need to hear. I wonder if you need to hear that where you are at, is not the end of your story. That you're going to be OK. That you really matter. I wonder if you need to be told that I have space for you to be heard, heal and to grow your ability to respond differently to life and what you are going through. I wonder if you need to hear that the negative committee in your mind, is bullying you, and that we can challenge the words they are saying to you, and you can feel better.

Trauma leaves us feeling broken, damaged, and disconnected from our true selves. You may be fed up with feeling triggered in everyday situations, isolated from friends who can’t understand, or guilt over what happened to you. You may not even remember a time you didn’t feel like this. Either way, one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to enjoy deep relationships without your past getting in the way. You’re ready to wake up each morning with purpose. Most of all, you’re ready to love yourself again & to face your future with a sense of hope.

For some of you this first step might have been easy, for many others starting the search took some time. And choosing a counsellor by having a brief conversation is next. I start the counseling process exactly where you are. Using a style that is usually collaborative and gentle, but can switch to utilizing humour and challenge if that works better for you.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
