As a queer transfeminine counsellor, my aim is to provide counselling services to individuals who feel more safe, better understood, or better served by having a queer counsellor. Sometimes queer clients need queer counsellors. It can be an uncomfortable experience to feel misunderstood by your counsellor, or to have to educate them on what your identity means. This includes clients with LGBTQIA2S+ experience, clients struggling with issues relating to gender and sexuality, and anyone else who may prefer a queer counsellor for their own reasons. Once we start, we can talk about any of your problems, be they queer or otherwise.

I am passionate about walking alongside couples as they navigate the challenges of family life. As an international adoptee, I aim to bring a sense of compassion as I work alongside individuals, children and families in a collaborative and client-centered approach where every individual's voice is heard. I aim to come alongside those with neurodiverse backgrounds and provide a safe, accepting, and warm environment to process life together. I work with various individuals who are working through grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse as well as adoption related concerns such as rejection, identity issues and relational issues

Through my clinical work and life experiences, I have found many of us as humans do not take enough time to slow down and attune to what is truly going on internally within ourselves, which can lead to unresolved issues in life. As a therapist, I use a strength-based, somatic, person-centered, Adlerian, and mindfulness approach to help empower my clients to practice embracing and embodying who they truly are. I believe when individuals start operating in a space of honesty with their true authentic self, it can allow decisions to be made with more ease and help filter out unnecessary noise from the external world.

We can find ourselves feeling lost, stuck or hopeless. It can look like patterns of anxiety, perfectionism, fear of failure, overthinking or people pleasing. Or be the result of life transitions, complicated relationships, adverse childhoods, relational/complex trauma, or inequity and injustice.  I wholeheartedly believe we all have the ability to have fulfilling relationships and to lead meaningful lives. Sometimes we just need guidance on reconnecting with our true selves and a sense of purpose. This is where my role as your therapist is immensely invaluable and rewarding.

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor/Psychotherapist with 25 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families, I use a client-centred, integrative approach to address the therapeutic goals of clients. No one should be defined by their diagnoses, and rather than placing emphasis on what is not working, I collaborate with clients to determine what actions can be taken to improve on their circumstances. All individuals exist along their own continuum of mental health, and with adequate supports and a focus on holistic well-being, every client can be nurtured towards growth and a healthier sense of self.

Trauma to me is any distressing event that impacts our emotional responses or ability to feel fully engage in our lives. Even if there are shared life experiences, each one of us has a unique emotional experience and understanding of the event. Therefore what we identify as traumatic for one may not be for another. As a child I yearned to understand other's experiences influenced the way in which they navigate their world in the face of trauma. It seemed that in many people's experiences there is a difficulty in being emotionally honest without a feeling overwhelmed or frozen, especially so when there has been trauma(s) suffered.

Sometimes life events make us feel as if we are inside a tornado or stuck in a fog. I’ve been there myself, I know how it feels. It caused me to lose touch with my true self and cross paths with anxiety & depression decades ago. Finding my way back to myself was so impactful that I left a solid career in corporate to become a Registered Counsellor. If you find yourself lost in that fog battling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, childhood trauma, low self-esteem, relationships or disconnected from your true self, I am here to help you clear the way so you can reclaim your true self again, mind, body & soul. :)

Now accepting new clients! As a therapist who has lived experience with C-PTSD myself, I often work with clients who are looking for support in unlearning some of the protective patterns that they developed in childhood that are no longer helpful to them in their adult lives. I can offer a level of understanding beyond being trauma-informed, as my personal history combined with my education in trauma can support you in gaining a deeper understanding of how your reactions make sense on a biological level and how we can tap into the mind-body connection to create new, healthier patterns so that the old ones may eventually fall away.

Emotional pain is inevitable in life. Feelings of stress, inadequacy, disappointment, anxiety, anger, and grief are universal and part of the shared human experience. Every individual experience these feelings through different situations and all of us interpret these experiences through varied perspectives because of our culture, personal history and personality differences. To move on, sometimes we learn to mask our difficult emotions by suffering in silence or behaving as though everything is okay. However, when we avoid facing our pain, they may fester within us and result in more shame and turmoil that affects our daily lives.

My clients are incredible people who have gone through a major life transition (trauma, loss, career change, breakup, migration, health diagnosis and/or narcissistic abuse) and value professional support to navigate it all. There may be concerns around career/family and how to show up for life while feeling anxious, burnt out or struggling to keep it together. Clients see me for self-esteem, perfectionism, sleep issues, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, sports performance, cultural oppression, workplace alienation and complex childhood trauma. Im a member of both ACCT and ACTA. I see BIPOC and other clients in BC and Alberta.
