I have been practicing as a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist in B.C. for 42 years. I was previously the Senior Psychologist at the Vancouver Health Dept. and the Director of Psychology at VGH (Shaughnessy). I was a consultant to the Family Justice Counselling Service (BC Attorney General) for 10 years and the National Parole Board of Canada. My clients these days see me primarily for parenting and post-separation problems. This can take the form of parenting assessments for the Court, consulting, and Parent Coordination. I have experience providing mental health support to both youth and adults related to a range of difficulties such as depression, anxiety, substance use and addictions, PTSD and trauma, emotional regulation, stress management, as well as more severe mental health symptoms and diagnosis such as psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bipolar, and also personality disorders such as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD). I am a registered service provider with the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) and ICBC.

I believe that every client is innately aware where they need to go (in therapy) to heal themselves. My role is to use my skills to help them along in that process. I meet clients where they are at recognizing that may change from session to session. We start with their goal(s) for counselling and work from there. I don't "need" to know anything in particular before we start. I find that with a trusting relationship, a client will share all that is relevant in order to attain their goal(s).

I am a Clinical Psychologist registered in both BC and Saskatchewan (website: www.drjordanmaile.com) who provides treatment for adults with depression, anxiety, worry, stress, and anger issues. Since I am registered in both BC and SK, I can see clients (virtually) from both provinces. I use primarily cognitive-behaviour therapy or CBT; if you don't know what this, I'd be happy to explain! Psychotherapy involves developing a therapeutic relationship in which you feel at ease, set goals, and choose methods to achieve these goals. People tend to overcome or manage issues after they develop understanding of what is amiss, develop motivation (if needed), learn healthy expression of emotion, and learn to examine and confront thoughts and emotions while practicing new behaviours.

I love helping people, which is why I chose to go into counselling. Everyone goes through times of struggles and challenges. It takes strength to face challenges and to actively work toward doing things differently. While the process can be difficult, I believe the outcome makes it worthwhile.
