A registered counsellor since 1994, I have worked with a wide array of clients. I have done much work with marriages and relationships and have developed a system that generally makes a significant difference within 6 sessions. For six years, I worked as an elementary school counsellor, working with over 450 children for a wide variety of needs. For 20 years, I worked extensively with Level 3 foster children, mostly teens. I also served as a prison chaplain so am familiar with criminal justice issues and addictions. Because of the diversity of my experience, I can generally relate to most clients.

Having problems with our emotions is one of the most common psychological issues people are facing these days. You might be overwhelmed by your emotions, have trouble feeling anything, or feel stuck with an emotion that never seems to go away. It might come with a clinical diagnosis like anxiety or depression, or you might just not feel like yourself anymore. Maybe you know exactly why you feel this way, or it may seem like a total mystery to you. What often makes it harder is that no one has ever taught us how to deal with these emotional problems!

If you're feeling overwhelmed by guilt, shame, doubt or the pressure to be the "perfect" parent, you're not alone. As a parent myself, I understand the weight of these challenges. Many parents and families struggle with issues like emotional regulation for their children, managing parenting guilt, and navigating life transitions. Many of us need support with emotional awareness and dealing with anxiety. If these concerns resonate with you, you're in the right place.

Finding a therapist you trust and feel safe with is foundational to successful counselling. As a therapist, I use compassion, experience, authenticity and insight create a space where you are safe to process your thoughts and feelings, strengths and struggles and to receive support for expressing, connecting with and honouring your deepest values and life goals. Being responsive to clients needs also requires therapeutic education, direction and curiosity. I value asking questions which support you in experiencing your own “ah ha” moments. I will work to help you put language to some of the challenges you have experienced.

Something happened to you: a trauma, a broken relationship, a difficult childhood. Maybe you are telling yourself that you “should be over it by now” or “it happened so long ago". You have big reactions that you don’t understand. All the things you usually have access to, like your logic and your reasoning, seem to go away in that moment, and all you know is that something doesn’t feel right. Maybe these big reactions feel like anxiety, depression, being highly self critical or maybe on the outside everything seems fine, but on the inside you not ok. The truth is that there is no timeline for how events impact us.
