We believe counselling is about being open and willing about exploring that which is negatively impacting your life. Facing challenges and difficulties takes courage and a belief that something could be different and even, perhaps, better. I aim to create a warm and welcoming space. Here, you are invited to explore your current situation with a focus on how to create a brighter tomorrow. We believe each person has a sense of what is helpful. Personalizing each session, we collaboratively create a plan to move you through this challenge and to a tomorrow with greater freedom. We offer reduced rate counselling with our MACP candidate.

People often come to therapy with hopes of feeling happier and more fulfilled, yet the process of change can be frightening and uncomfortable. I want my clients to feel they are in the driver's seat, with access to the brake and gas. I am the passenger with the road map. I will guide their healing journey but they choose the direction and pace.
I truly believe the only thing more frightening than 'change' is the status quo. Why settle? You deserve more!

As a therapist, and human in general, I am passionate about creating space for the stories and emotions that are so often pushed away, hidden from view, and disavowed. I believe that to be seen, heard, and accepted in these tender places can be a profoundly healing experience, even (and especially) when there is "nothing to do about it," other than bear witness and grieve. An important piece of this process is moving towards a way of being that centers less around achieving, perfecting and “doing” and much more around “being.” Being present, being messy, being perfectly imperfect and ok with slow processes and uncertainties.

I have a Bachelor and Master's Degree in Social Work from UBC and over 23 years experience helping others with mental health, addictions, and relationship issues in a variety of health care, community and social service settings. When you come in for counselling support, I start by creating a relaxed atmosphere where you feel safe and reassured that you've found someone who can help you truly face the issues you're experiencing. Sometimes, the stress of life can be overwhelming and your world becomes very narrow.

I believe in creating balance between the physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual elements that define who we are. I value an integrative approach to counselling with a strong foundation built on humanistic, family of origin and client-centered principles. In practice this means my energy is directed toward building a relationship based on empathy, positive regard, and genuineness. These are necessary elements in the change process. My aim is to always provide an environment where clients feel safe, respected, and valued. Only then does positive personal growth begin.

Is Substance Use having negative impacts in your life? Are you unsure of what to do next and how to go about doing it? The relationship that we have with substances can feel like handcuffs. It can be that force that tells you it will be different this time and then it isn’t different. It’s this cycle of chaos that can keep us stuck. Breaking the stigma and isolation by walking towards vulnerability and courage can feel like an overwhelming journey, but the rewards can be lifelong. If your substance use is keeping you stuck and hopeless, there is help.

Making the decision to see a counsellor is an important one, and who you decide to work with will make a difference. Despite credentials, there are a wide range of differences between approaches, values, and beliefs. I encourage you to decide what matters most to you from the person you are seeking assistance from, and ask him or her questions prior to (or during) your decision to begin counselling.

I believe that you should do you. I also think that you should do the least anxious, least depressed, least traumatized and least isolated version of you that you can do. Reaching out for counselling can be really nerve-racking. It is also hard to admit that there is something in your life that might not be working quite right. My hopes are that you can make the changes that you want to make, and I'm hoping that I can support you to do it.

The concentration of my practice is working with families who are experiencing conflict, difficult emotions, and/or concerning behaviours. How should we react or respond? What can we do to help and support? How do we make sense of these big emotions and behaviours? I work with individuals and families through a systemic approach that strives to develop understanding and provide concrete tools and strategies for making change. I am flexible in my ability to offer individual, couple, and family sessions.

Wellness is a complex combination of mental and physical health. You may be feeling vulnerable and needing to discuss intimate subjects that may be perceived as too shameful or traumatic to share with others. As an RN and therapist, I know that how our bodies work (or don’t) has a huge impact on our well-being Whether your mental health is impacting your physical health or vice versa, it can be difficult to find a therapist who understands both. Whether you are experiencing sexual challenges, perinatal mood shifts or difficulty moving through a trauma, I am here to believe you in your experience and support you in moving forward.

I invite and include all humans; even if you feel alien, you are welcome. As a member of the LGBTQ2S community with mixed ancestry and a decolonizing lens, I see people as being impacted by their social, cultural and environmental circumstances. These factors intersect with the Self which includes spiritual, physical, mental and emotional aspects. Your unique expression of Self requires an approach tailored to your specific needs and style of learning. We will collaborate on the approach and your goals to ensure that you get what you need from therapy. We will also build in checkpoints to allow for course correction.

I specialize in working with folks with a history of trauma. Because many disorders often have unrecognized trauma at their core, I work with people struggling with issues such as depression, social and generalized anxiety, PTSD, grief and chronic health conditions. I view these disorders through a trauma lens and use various trauma treatments to help you heal. I also adopt an anti-oppresive lens to my work, making sure that you feel safe to be your authentic self in my office.

Each person’s experiences can only be witnessed and felt from their own perspective. I recognize that every person has an innate human need to be heard, witnessed, respected, and honored in those experiences. The focus of my practice is to honor every individual's unique feelings, circumstances, and experiences without interpreting them. My goal is to find the deepest meanings to their experiences. I want to help them heal from those experiences and help them to integrate them into becoming empowered to live their fullest lives.
