When anxiety, depression, grief, and stress feel never ending, we can find ourselves reacting in ways we wouldn’t normally or having perpetual frustration and disconnection with ourselves, others, and the world. It can feel like our situation, relationships, and mental health won’t or can’t get better. From both my professional and personal experience, I have seen the relief and power that comes from the courageous step to seek support and how connection with safe and supportive people can help heal and restore us.

I help children struggling with emotional regulation, anxiety, self harm, aggression, social isolation, life changes, loss, traumatic events and neurodiversity.
Parenting is the most invested relationship one can partake in. There are many tasks and challenges involved in guiding little people towards becoming adults. Life can force families to face events that impact children's ability to feel safe and function successfully. This is when it becomes key to incorporate "it takes a whole community to raise a child", and I believe that people do the best they can with what they know. I have dedicated 23 years to helping children express their needs. And I can help increase your "knowing" so that we can enrich your child's relationships and increase their tolerance for the difficult stuff

My clinical interests are helping people through depression and anxiety, religious trauma, chronic illness & pain, grief & loss, relationship issues, developmental/relational trauma, sexuality, identity and meaning.
A common misconception is that you need to hit "rock bottom" before you decide to seek counselling. There are numerous reasons why a person may choose to speak with a qualified professional; everything from taking preventative measures to addressing a full-blown crisis. Whether you're in a season of life where you're looking for insight, needing some guidance in making a shift or transition, wanting to change but not being sure how, hurting badly and feeling hopeless, carrying a burden of past traumas and memories, or in a crisis and you've reached your limit - counselling can help.

As a counsellor I hope to model grace, courage, and genuineness to my clients while I come along side them, and act as a resource for positive change in their lives. I have a warm, engaging, and professional demeanour that helps clients feel at ease, supported, and able to embrace the delicate balance between risk, hope, and trust. Most importantly, I want my clients to know that it is an absolute privilege that they invite me into their lives to share on their journey with them. This may include helping my clients with concerns relating to their personal growth, wellness, relationships, mental health, and/or psychological distress.

Each of us can be impacted by anxiety, stress, trauma and relationship difficulties as we go through life. I assist individuals in processing difficult emotions and experiences, navigating life transitions, learning new coping and relationship skills as well as exploring identity and developing a strong sense of self. Systemic discrimination has a profound impact on mental health, and I aim to offer safe counselling services to queer, trans, non-binary, neurodiverse and culturally diverse clients. I believe that every person is the expert and author of their life story, and my role is to assist you in writing the next chapter.

Life is hard. As human beings we need connection and are not meant to navigate life alone. The relieving reality is that we don’t have to. I offer specialized counselling for individuals facing challenges with eating disorders, body dissatisfaction and problematic substance use. I provide support for a wide array of other challenges too, such as life transitions, relationship issues, maternal mental health and faith deconstruction. I work with clients as they learn to better understand themselves and their emotions, take better care of their nervous systems, recognize their innate value and worth and ultimately reclaim their power.

Life is really challenging. You may lie awake at night, wondering how to handle all the pressures upon you. Your emotions swing wildly -- usually more down than up. Tears surge at odd times, and you feel suffocated by the heaviness in your chest. Or, you're experiencing problems in a relationship: with your spouse, your boss, or someone else whom you're close to. The strife and negative feelings that surround your relationship problems are draining you. You can't fix things on your own and you know you need help.

What is making your relationships repetitive or unfulfilling? What is keeping you from communicating effectively with those close to you? What pain, fear or unhelpful beliefs are holding you back or keeping you stuck? What loss are you still grieving? What gives you hope, and a sense of purpose?.
Our health, growth and happiness come from meaningful and satisfying connections with ourselves and others. Uncovering what is behind our struggles can help us focus our efforts, feel more empowered and recapture our lost potential.

As a counsellor for 30 years, I have had the privilege of supporting many people through difficult spots in their journeys - including relationship struggles, grief and loss, transitions, trauma, low self-esteem, depression and anxiety.
Life is a journey in which we all encounter unexpected twists and turns, detours and obstacles... The journey can also be full of possibility, discovery and joy. Counselling can provide support and strategies to help you navigate the challenges with greater ease, and enhance the positive experiences with a sense of meaning and purpose. My goal in counselling is to foster an environment in which you may achieve greater understanding and compassion for yourself, find ways to ease distress, and create more clarity, peace and stability in your life.

Grief Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
