I work with people who suffer from the effects of systematic racism and discrimination through art therapy. Racism takes a toll on our mental wellness and can be the source of anxiety, identity issues, depression, cultural disconnect, unmanageable anger, and trauma. Stigma towards mental illness creates barriers for individuals who need to seek out help, and in marginalized communities this stigma is especially harmful. I am an art therapist that works from a systems-based perspective and a client-centred approach.
I look at the many facets of an individuals life, but most importantly I believe in meeting the client where they are at. Building from an individuals strengths from a place of non-judgement is something you can expect from me. My experience lies in working with people suffering from substance use, depression, anxiety, and colonization.
Accessibility to resources for mental wellness is important to me. I aim to work with disenfranchised individuals and those who may experience personal barriers that prevent them from seeking help. There is no experience necessary when doing art therapy, only openness.
