I enjoy working with folks navigating anxiety, people-pleasing, perfectionism, low self-esteem/confidence, stress and burnout, emotional regulation, school and work-related challenges, life transitions, men's mental health, boundary setting/effective communication, and relationship difficulties.
I respect that everyone experiences life differently, coming to therapy with their own story. At times, the voice that tells the story may be self-criticizing and judgemental. My hope for our work together is that you come back to yourself and recognize your inherent strength and capacity for growth. Working from an attachment-based and trauma-informed perspective, I will meet you in a space of authenticity and vulnerability as we explore your inner world and help you develop a stronger and safer connection to self, others, and the world around you. All of you is welcome here, and it is my pleasure to join you.

I am a therapist who utilizes different approaches depending on the needs of my client. I have years of experience working in the addiction and mental health field and have worked with men, women, and youth of all ages. My areas of expertise include working with chronic and neuroplastic pain, addiction, PTSD, anxiety and depressive disorders. I work with clients virtually, but also can meet in person in a nature setting, if clients are wanting to explore equine assisted therapy. Sometimes a typical therapy setting isn't enough and building trust with the help of animals can greatly enrich the therapeutic experience.

Our journey in life is filled with obstacles, twists, and turns that can feel overwhelming. Stress and anxiety are more prevalent than ever before, and with all the ways we have to connect with other humans, we've never felt so isolated. Most of us need some help along the way - a navigator for our journey. I admire the courage it takes to seek this help and I’m confident that I can effectively guide you toward improved mental health and wellbeing. Often, mental health concerns are not so much the result of distorted views of the world; the views are merely incomplete.

Many of us have lost touch, abandoned, forgotten, or detached from the things that make us unique, bring us joy, and motivate us to build the life that we want to live. This sense of loss can produce many side effects such as anxiety, addiction, and depression. It can also cause us to attract relationships or people in our lives that are out of alignment with our soul's essence causing conflict, confusion, and chaos. If you are feeling lost, alone, confused, anxious, or rejected by others and or yourself - these can be clues that you have lost connection with important parts of yourself.

I have specialized training and expertise in: grief and loss, trauma, burnout, anxiety, stress management, life transitions, and couple’s therapy.
It is hard to reach out for support or to even consider reaching out when you are struggling. Perhaps you are experiencing a sense of grief, loss, or burnout leaving you feeling stuck and unsure about what the future holds? Perhaps you are feeling adrift and need someone to talk to as you figure out what to do next? Sometimes we find our past experiences interfere with the present and all of us face challenges that require extra support. Counselling can help you gain a better understanding of yourself, your relationships, and the changes you wish to implement to achieve further growth.

Are you stuck despite having a hunch about why you may feel, think, or act the way you do? What if I told you that it is possible to get to the core of your current difficulties and it is easier than you think? Anxiety, self-doubt, self-criticism, shame, procrastination, emotional avoidance, etc. may not be the real issue but rather a symptom of the issue. In my experience, these emotional states or stress-driven behaviours are simply masking what the real concern is. Focusing on that alone is giving you an incomplete picture of what is really going, which is why you haven’t been able to take steps forward yet.

You do not have to live with thoughts of not being good enough, fears of failure, being stuck in the same unhealthy patterns, overwhelmed by your body sensations, or confused, and frustrated with not knowing how to get the change you seek.
People who have experienced traumatic events in their lives commonly share that they feel like they are stuck in their symptoms and are fearful this will never change. Many have done therapy before and learned helpful tools and skills, but deep down don't feel the ease they seek. I want to share that it is possible to move through trauma and the symptoms that tend to result from it, such as anxiety and panic, depression, attachment issues (which often look like problematic patterns in relationships), self-esteem difficulties, and many more.

Hello & welcome to our little corner of the internet. It takes courage to reach out for help. Whether you are doing so for the first time or are returning, I commend you for taking this step. Trauma (single-episode; complex; perinatal; developmental), and anxiety & depression can significantly affect our mental, physical and emotional health, relationships and daily life. Hurts from long ago can continue to affect us in profound and sneaky ways, even if we thought we had dealt with them. You do not need to hurt forever. In therapy, we will work together to understand the problem, heal the hurts and get you living your best life.

Have you experienced a traumatic event that has stuck with you, making it more difficult to perform daily tasks or hobbies you once enjoyed? Maybe 'trauma' doesn’t resonate but deep down you know that some things you have experienced have left an imprint. My clients are women with concerns around perfectionism, overthinking, inner critics, anxiety, and healing from betrayal trauma and abuse. Often they grew up labelled as 'too sensitive', 'too much' or 'not enough' and struggle with purpose, self worth and a lack of meaning in their lives. My clients are inquisitive, brave and resilient, even if they aren't aware of that yet.

Currently accepting new clients for short-term therapy. I strive to provide my clients with a compassionate, non-judgmental and empathic space for them to feel safe and heard. Whether you’ve experienced a traumatic event, are dealing with stress, anxiety or depression, or just simply need someone to talk to, I hope I can be that person to guide you through these difficult times. I have 10+ years of experience working with adults and adolescents who have experienced anxiety, depression, trauma impacts, general mental health concerns (including PTSD, personality disorders, substance abuse) sexual and domestic abuse, and neglect.

I have had a great deal of success working with children and their parents for many childhood issues such as behavior problems, ADHD, anxiety and so on.
My background is in systems theory; the idea that everyone is connected to those around them, with influence between all those people, organizations, and cultures. My approach to therapy is primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but I also see a need for insight into the meaning that we make/have made of things and how that impacts our present. Therapy then, involves opening space for a person to increase awareness of their own process and to see alternative perspectives, thereby empowered to make different life decisions. It is so exciting to see someone realize that they have the power to change their perspective and their life!

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
