Transpersonal Therapists in Alberta
I work with an eclectic mix of modalities including ACT, EFT, IFS, focusing, nature-based therapy, somatic, transpersonal and mindfulness-based approaches.
Everyone has the innate capacity to heal and transform. I see my task as offering a safe, skilled and authentic relational space in which that might occur. I offer a highly individualized and integrative approach to help you bring more balance, resilience, meaning and flourishing into your life - to call forth and nurture your true potential. I have over 15 years of experience in individual, couple and group counselling and have worked with all age groups and with many different mental health issues and challenges. However, I see everyone as completely unique and needing their own particular co-created path to healing.

My approach is both personal (each person is unique and interesting, with a very particular set of abilities) and transpersonal (we are always more than our problems).
My name is Vistara. I'm a Registered Psychologist and have been working in the field therapy for over 25 years. I work with a wide variety of clients, age groups, cultural backgrounds, gender identities, and personal stories. I work with all ages and specialize in play therapy with children and working with adolescents. I also have a great deal of experience working with Indigenous clients and enjoy supervising provisional psychologists. Each person is different so I am always adjusting my approach and bringing warmth, honesty, openness, humour, intelligence, creative problem-solving, and a fresh perspective to every session.

Hi, my name is Suzan :) - I work with couples and Individuals to support them connect to what's beyond their psychological structures, personal stories, and past traumas. My educational background, and 24 years of professional experience, draws from various therapeutic traditions such as the cognitive,(CBT), systemic, (IFS), psychodynamic and existential, but it is the deeper and transpersonal perspective and approach that has my heart; It is about growing a loving awareness of yourself, and what's beyond the self; to tap into a greater sense of our connectedness with everything, to be at home inside, and to build our life in that.

We all struggle at times and I truly believe in a way through that is right for you. Art has always been a therapeutic and meaningful activity for me. Putting art together with psychotherapy seems like the most natural thing in the world. There is insight and growth to be found in the art-making process. Creativity and imagination are inborn resources for each individual to claim.

I am an Occupational Therapist (OT), Psychotherapist working in the field of spiritual/ transpersonal psychology. The term "occupation" in OT does not directly refer to your job (a common misconception!). Rather, "occupations" are defined as your personally meaningful activities. I collaborate with clients who are interested in engaging in more spiritual, self-care & leisure activities to help improve their mental health. As your OT, I will combine activity engagement, spiritual care and psychotherapeutic modalities (Emotional Freedom Techniques, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, etc.) to support your healing/recovery.

I feel like I was born in the construction trades. At a young age I worked at height (Rope Access), in remote areas, and in all environments. I wanted the skills to respond to any emergency at any time, this desire lead me to pre-hospital emergency medicine (EMR), wilderness first-aid, and rope rescue training. My work and personal experiences from this time left me feeling isolated, dreading human interactions, and losing my love of learning and mastering new skills. It was this experience that compelled me to address my own mental health and further lead me to complete a Diploma in Transpersonal Counselling Psychology.

Balancing the roles of individual, partner, professional, parent, and friend in the world can be challenging to manage. We are often trying to do it all. Our needs and desires fall to the bottom of the list. This can leave us feeling depleted, defeated and resentful. At some point, the weight of life gets too heavy, causing us to pause and take stock. Old habits, perspectives and issues that no longer serve us are meant to be pruned away, leaving space for new growth. With the proper support, we can become more centred, balanced, resourceful, and confident. We can have the freedom to choose how we want to be in the world.

How does transpersonal therapy work?
Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.
How long does transpersonal therapy last?
Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.
Is transpersonal therapy effective?
Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilise the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.
What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?
There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
