People seek help from therapy on the basis of a healthy longing to find relief from their emotional suffering. Are you struggling with painful symptoms of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, anger/resentment, guilt or grief? Do you find yourself repeating self-defeating behaviours, like over-eating, over-spending or over-drinking? Are you stuck in familiar but dissatisfying relationship patterns with your partner, friends, parents, kids or coworkers? Maybe you are lonely but have trouble trusting others. Perhaps you wish you could express your feelings or thoughts, but are held back by a fear of judgement or rejection.

My expertise is BIPOC individuals in the 16 - 40+ age range navigating relationship issues, self-exploration, life and career transitions, trauma, self-esteem issues, stress, anxiety, and family conflict.
Whether it's anxiety from relationships, pressure from work, or a disconnect between your values and decisions, we all can feel lost at times. Maybe you know exactly where you desire change, or you are uncertain and don't know where to start, I'm here to help! My goal is to work alongside you to create a space for you to engage in self-discovery, process life events, unlearn unhelpful beliefs and behaviours, build coping skills, and work towards inner peace that often feels eluding. Together we can re-gain a sense of control as no matter what's led you here, I believe in the human capacity to adapt and grow with the right support.

Life can be hard sometimes and sometimes we don't have the map or skills to know how to deal with it. We all have blind spots that counselling can help with. I commend you for taking this step. As a counselling psychologist, I can help you learn how to cultivate a healthier relationship with yourself and those closest to you. I have worked successfully with a wide range of adults from top performers and working professionals and leaders, to post-secondary students, artists and sensitive souls facing a variety of life transitions.

It is my belief that the therapeutic relationship is the most important part of counselling and having a confidential, safe space to do that in allows individuals to be open about what is going on for them.
With a strong background in mental health and addiction from working in the public health care system, along with being a facilitator for a complex trauma group, I have experience with many different challenges that people face from trauma, anxiety and depression to relationship issues, communication struggles and difficulty with emotional regulation. The main therapeutic modalities that I incorporate into my practice are eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and solutions-focused brief therapy (SFBT) along with having a strengths-based, client-centred approach.

It can be hard to enjoy life, especially when our innermost thoughts and automatic reactions are difficult or painful. It can feel like we are "stuck" on autopilot causing many areas of our life to feel unsatisfying, stressful, or overwhelming. I help people get "unstuck" from the symptoms of stress that they have been trying to manage (panic, anxiety, relationship issues, reactivity, body pain). By reducing chronically held tension in our nervous system, we are better able to manage our responsibilities, our relationships, and recover easier. Therapy can help restore an inner calm and can help you come back to yourself.

If you are struggling with anxiety or depression; require healing from compassion fatigue or burnout; want to acquire that 'edge' to enhance your performance in sport, career or life; feel you could use some guidance with life and relationship transitions; or need that neutral person to process some of your 'stuff' - I'm here for you!.
For you to feel safe and comfortable to work together is my first priority! I work from a rather casual and relaxed perspective to ensure you feel like you can join me where you're at without judgment, and from there we can make change happen together! My deepest passion is to walk with you in your journey to creating and living the life you want to live; encouraging you to dream bigger and be specific with your aspirations really fuels what I do! I would love to help guide you from where you are at, to where you want to go!

Hi, I’m Gio (they/them), and if you're reading this I'm assuming you're looking for a therapist. I hate to break it to you, but the "perfect" therapist doesn't exist. However, we could build a therapeutic relationship together that is the perfect solution to the reasons you're looking for a therapist. You might be feeling anxious, depressed, or scared - but you're also feeling ready for change. Try a free consultation with me and let's see if we'd make a good team to tackle some of those worries together.

Are you in a loop of self-blame, regret, or anxiety over how events in your life have gone or are going? Would those close to you say you "have it together" but, deep down, circumstances have left you feeling "not good enough"? Has the shame or disappointment eroded trust in your ability to make confident decisions for your relationships, your job, your life direction? Whether symptoms began due to unfortunate luck, a traumatic event, relationship breakdown, etc., I help identify patterns keeping you stuck and offer solution-focused, evidence based strategies to address anxiety, self-doubt, indecision, PTSD, and codependency.

You may be doing the best you can yet find yourself using substances to cope, experiencing conflict in your relationship, or afraid of what might happen because of who you are or who you love.
Beginning therapy is a difficult experience for many people and it may take time to feel comfortable scheduling an appointment. Many people are nervous or anxious for their first therapy session and that's okay. It really makes sense considering you're opening up about difficult things to someone you've just met. I strive to provide a safe, comfortable, compassionate space for the people I work with so they can feel comfortable being themselves without judgment or fear.

Relationship Issues Counsellors
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
