I have worked extensively in the arts and media on performance, creativity and anxiety. With four degrees in Psychology including a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a Certificate in Intercultural Studies, formal education has been invaluable. Psychological interventions are a way to understand, and change problematic behaviours and relationships that impede a person's development. I see the maladaptive patterns that people become embroiled in as knots, and psychotherapy as a way for people to untie the emotional knots they find themselves in. My approach is psychodynamic in orientation which means how to fundamentally change the negative patterns we continually make across multiple relationships. My particular skill is in working with and helping you to understand the emotional relationships people engage in and how these can have negative and positive consequences

I view issues through an attachment, psychodynamic and existential lens.
If you are looking to gain a deeper satisfaction in life, and create a lasting change that will have a trickle down effect into the rest of your life I may be a great fit for you. Together we will work to overcome barriers (PTSD, anxiety, OCD, depression, marital/family difficulties, and existential issues) that are standing in your way of a more joyful life. I have specialized training to work with children, teens, adults and couples. I believe that through acceptance, introspection, exploration and application of these in one’s life change can begin and be long-lasting. I'd be happy to meet with you!

We all need a little help from time to time. Sometimes life gets hard and those difficult moments can make it feel impossible to recognize that things can improve. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy. I am a culturally sensitive and L.G.B.T.Q.I.A.+ clinician and welcome all people from all walks of life.

I believe that psychology is a tool for solving problems and working through change. In my career, I have helped many people 'get unstuck', overcoming emotional difficulties and working through trauma, grief, and loss. I also regularly work with couples and families, helping with challenges including marital conflict and parenting difficulties. My approach is integrative, and tailored to each person that I meet. I draw upon a number of evidenced-based approaches, including emotion-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, experiential therapy, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy.

I use a combination of psychodynamic approaches with narrative, attachment, and humanistic techniques as a frame to understand how you view the world.
Feeling alone? Feeling lost? Feeling like you find yourself in the same situation over and over again? Many people experience turmoil in their relationships leading to stress, isolation, anxiety, low self-esteem and feelings of low mood. Through an empathetic approach and curiosity at the fore-front, I want to work with my client to develop their identity, confidence, and find their voice to make positive change in their life.

I have a psychodynamic background and I mostly use Emotionally-Focused Therapy approach that is humanistic, non-judgmental and caring in nature.
Things are often not what they appear and our past experiences might have negative effects on our self-esteem and self-image, how we perceive things, and how we relate to the others. Those past experiences often prevent us from moving forward in life and keep us stuck. I have been passionately providing counselling to individuals, couples, children and families and supporting them in their journey to reaching full potential. I help clients who are facing depression and anxiety as a result of life challenges, such as relationship issues, divorce and separation, past traumas, parenting issues, health concerns etc.

To create a personalized and effective approach for each client, I draw from various therapeutic modalities, including Psychodynamic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Narrative Therapy (to name a few!).
For me, the ideal client is someone who is committed to their own healing journey and understands that participating in therapy is a lifelong process. I deeply believe that everyone deserves to live a fulfilling and happy life, and that seeking therapy is a courageous step towards achieving that. As a therapist, I have found that the most rewarding experiences come from working with clients who are willing to put in the effort and dedication to their own growth and healing. I feel honored to walk alongside these clients on their journey, providing support, guidance, and compassion as they navigate the ups and downs of life.

Psychodynamic therapy (insight-oriented therapy) focuses on understanding unconscious processes.
I am a registered psychologist with a master’s degree in counselling and over 15 years of experience working in mental health. Previously, I worked as an occupational therapist and certified yoga instructor. My diversified training and background allows me to bring a holistic approach to the therapeutic process. My primary therapeutic modalities include Psychodynamic and Attachment based therapy, however, when required I will adapt the way I work with clients based on their individual needs. As well as working with individuals, families and groups, I have a special interest in working with couples.

I believe we’re all doing our best to make it work in a world that teaches isolation and self-reliance when we are wired for safe connection and secure dependence. You may be stuck feeling lonely, isolated, and empty, or maybe you’ve suffered through a difficult relationship, an impossible loss, or in securing a sense of belonging in the world. Through somatically-rooted psychodynamic counselling, we’ll focus on integrating the competing parts of you that fuel your tensions. Using parts-work, metaphor, and somatic practice, we’ll get curious about the patterns you’ve developed to survive.

I utilize a unique approach called Psychodynamic Therapy, which creates space for self-awareness and Emotion Focused Therapy to help clients approach, accept, tolerate, and symbolize emotions rather than avoid them.
I recognize and can appreciate that initiating therapy can feel worrisome as well as uncertain. A successful therapeutic alliance requires a strong sense of safety and security before diving into a personal narrative about trauma or relationship concerns. I believe the therapy journey can evolve with consistent and effective dialogue, exploration of adaptive skills, and ongoing resources which are applied throughout the process. You are the captain of your ship, and I feel privileged and honoured to sail alongside you.

I am a Psychodynamic Depth Therapist.
Sometimes our thoughts and feelings become unmanageable without help. Anxiety, stress and depression are just some of the ways our mind tells us that something isn't right, or the ways we've coped in the past aren't quite working as well as they did. Change can be unsettling and distressing, but it can also be healing, fulfilling and hopeful. I provide a therapeutic space that is safe, warm and engaging where you can engage in your process, at whatever pace you need.

While my approaches vary, I lean towards a psychodynamic orientation (to help people gain insight into how their past relationships and experiences inform their present ones) as well as techniques that are mind-body based, emotion-focused and specialized for those who have histories of trauma or chronic pain (including ART and Pain Reprocessing Therapy).
I am passionate about helping people reduce their emotional or physical suffering and work through difficulties that are keeping them stuck or unhappy in their lives. I bring a unique perspective and skillset to my work having practiced as a lawyer for several years before changing paths to become a therapist. I work with individuals and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, relationship difficulties, addictions, self-esteem issues, grief and loss and major transitions. I work collaboratively with them to strengthen both their inner and outer capacities and connections.

I am an integrative psychodynamic therapist who employs evidence-based interventions to support my clients in developing a grounding sense of identity, a meaningful life with purpose, and fulfilling interpersonal relationships. The therapeutic process, in part, entails an exploration of early attachment, stressors and adversity, coping mechanisms, patterns in relating to others, and internal conflicts. My approach involves consideration of psychological distress in relation to social identity, self-esteem, and the fundamental human need for belongingness.

Natalie believes in taking a holistic biopsychosocial approach to counselling and incorporates psychodynamic elements into her practice.
As a trauma therapist, Natalie guides clients in a direction of understanding and compassion through a process of reconfiguration of the self, helping clients discover core values and explore new ways to connect with life and relationships after trauma. Natalie’s approach to counselling involves considering the many factors that contribute to a person’s well-being. This includes exploring where thoughts, emotions, and behaviours come from, and examining social conditions and cultural factors that play a major role in health and disease.

If you want treatment that is individually tailored to you and your specific situation, if you value approaches that reach both deeper and wider than the run-o-the-mill, if you've tried other approaches before and been unhappy, you you might prefer my alternative.

I am certified in attachment and trauma and use an integrative approach blending psychodynamic, emotionally focused and cognitive behavioural therapy.
As adults, we are often called to a process of unlearning and undoing on our journey toward internal fulfillment, happiness and peace. If you feel lost, hopeless and engulfed by life's challenges, you are not alone and in the right place. It starts with choosing to embark on the healing journey, find happiness, and cultivate the life you genuinely desire. They say pain can be our greatest teacher, and I can assist you with the tools and support as you embark on your journey of personal transformation and self-discovery.

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
