For my therapeutic approaches; I draw on a variety of counselling approaches that are trauma-informed, Strengths based, Single Session therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gottman Couple's Therapy and EMDR, shifting approaches based on each person’s individual needs.
Hello, my name is Afraa, and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist and a CCC counsellor. Navigating life's complexities and mental health struggles can be challenging, let’s connect so we can explore possibilities, maximize potential and rediscover purpose in a safe, inclusive, anti-oppressive space. You are already on your path to healing by seeking support. We can start by exploring tools to help you develop better coping strategies. I became a therapist because I am curious about people and their stories and how they can reduce suffering, better manage their mental health and improve their overall wellbeing through therapy.

Some approaches that I often draw from include humanistic theories, EMDR, CBT, attachment-based, strength-based, solution-focused, and play therapy (yes, even adults can play if they want!).
“Life is tough” - reading that phrase might really resonate with you, but it might also seem like the understatement of the year because in fact, life feels impossible and unbearable. Or maybe, you feel that the word “tough” is too strong and life is actually going ok, but there are some rough spots you could use help with. No matter where you are in life, what’s happening, or how challenging you may find it, you deserve to be supported through it and reaching out is a great step. Remember, you are never “too broken” to be helped and your problems are never “too small” to be worth asking for help.

My goal is to help you make meaningful changes in your life, so that you feel your life is full of purpose and growth. My approach is to blend acceptance and validation of your emotions with action-oriented strategies to help you begin feeling and living your life differently. Therapy sessions include a combination of having space to share your feelings while also being invited to try new skills and strategies within and between sessions. Anxiety, depression, feeling stuck in old patterns, managing grief and couples counselling are some of the primary concerns I excel in working with.

I am an EFT and EMDR trained therapist with special interests in PTSD, C-PTSD, First Responders/Veterans, workplace stressors, depression, anxiety, couples, family and relationship injuries.

It has this way of making us feel like we are living outside of ourselves, or like we are going ‘crazy.’ Whether you are seeking individual, couples or family therapy, I offer support that can help you to deepen your sense of belonging, safety and understanding.
