Hi, I’m Allison and I’m glad you are here. Life can throw a lot of curveballs our way. Some days it can feel as though we are drowning in life stressors and caught in worrying spirals or experiencing task paralysis. Other days may feel doable but then a trauma trigger hits us, and we get stopped in our tracks. A counselling relationship can help us navigate through overwhelming and difficult life circumstances. Reaching out for help is hard but with a little bit of discomfort comes change and growth!

Salam and hello. A client once shared a quote by Ram Dass that resonated with me: "We're all just walking each other home." Every time I "walk a client home," I feel honoured. I believe that everyone is born with immense amount of strength, but it can be hard to see your strength when you are going through a hard time. My work as a psychologist is built on the foundation of trusting relationship, non-judgmental space, and the positive regard I offer to my clients. I work collaboratively with my clients, supporting them in acknowledging and embracing their strengths and moving gently towards change.

We all have experiences that turn our world upside down. These experiences can be anything, but when it happens, we can feel confused, lost, or stuck while struggling to adjust to our new reality. I aim to support clients so that they gain self-knowledge, build resilience, and feel capable in their "new normal." As a Registered Psychologist, I work with individuals (adult and teens), couples, and families to help them achieve and maintain mental wellness while going through experiences that challenge them. I believe all challenges occur within a context, so I include social and cultural factors into my work with all clients.

I am a PACT (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy) trained therapist with specialized skills for helping couples understand patterned responses to relational conflict.
CONFIDENTIAL, COMPASSIONATE, SKILLED...My clients are curious, brave and ready to evolve, even if they're not quite sure what that looks like yet. They are looking to access the underlying roots of present day triggers, to live authentically in a world that promotes quick fix solutions and unending busyness. Meaningful growth commands us to slow down, pay attention, inquire within, and be (not do). Individuals that connect with me are ready for something different, something deeper. They are ready to develop a more compassionate relationship to the parts of self that are calling for attention. They are ready to thrive.

I work with clients and their personal challenges with care, warmth, compassion, and curiosity. We explore the barriers that hold you back from having the life you desire. My focus is to guide you towards a deeper level of change. We do this by exploring the patterns keeping you stuck, beliefs that limit you, and thoughts that cause you distress. Often these patterns are rooted in the past due to early attachment, developmental, relational and shock trauma. Processing these experiences in a safe therapeutic relationship, allows us to heal the past and move to a place of authenticity, integrity, and satisfaction in our lives.

I specialize in sex and sexuality, relationship and family concerns, couples' conflicts and communication, chronic pain and disease management, adolescent development, parenting concerns, anxiety treatment, clinical hypnosis, pre/peri/post-natal concerns, family planning, behavioural health interventions, and supervision/training of health professionals.
"Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein - As a psychologist, I tend to work with people to focus them on what they can change and control to find successes with their problems. Whether working with couples, families, children, youth, or adults, I'd like to be the guy who listens in a way others may have failed to hear you before. My ideal client is anyone craving new skills, new ways of thinking and feeling, and is ready to learn how to think anew about the things they were once sure of.

My techniques are informed by strength- based, relationship- centered and trauma- informed methods with a priority on going at your pace.
Struggling with a traumatic event, mental health and/ or addictions can feel like drowning in unseen waves; the waves of grief, anxiety, anger, fear, trauma, relational concerns, transitions, or self-worth. We try to soothe ourselves by acting out on ourselves, and others or engaging in behaviours that harm us and those we love. I believe that we can hold fragility and resilience, courage and fear, uncertainty and hope. You can begin the process of rebuilding and reclaiming all while staying afloat. Together, we will begin to anticipate those waves coming and not get pulled under but rather negotiate them with resounding courage.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
