I offer counselling to people that are highly sensitive and highly empathic. Many of my clients are intuitive and seem to know things and see things that others aren't aware of. This often leaves them feeling out of place, isolated, and unsure if they can trust themselves. A common issue is being in relationships where you over give but are told you are not doing enough. This can lead to overthinking, overanalyzing, anxiety, depression, and low-self esteem. You might know what you want to do, what you want to say but get stuck because of the worry of hurting the other person's feelings.

I work with young people who struggle with anxiety, self-worth, self-confidence, self-expression, and coping skills. My sessions are not the traditional 50-minute in-office talk therapy. Sessions are up to 1.5 hours, using relational therapeutic experiences (art, play, experiential, and talk too), based on the interests of the young person. I work with young people in experiencing the tools that will help them to resolve their concerns, giving them the opportunity to practice in their life-space. Appointments are available for evenings and weekends. I prefer to come to you for young children as they are more comfortable at home.

You are overthinking, worrying, having difficulty sleeping, and unsure how to control your emotions. Symptoms of anxiety can cause you to shut down due to an increase of distress in your body. This can make socializing, work-related tasks, chores, and maintaining relationships with friends and family too overwhelming. You are feeling emotionally and physically exhausted. You are here for a reason. Allow me to support you as you deserve to be well and find yourself again.

I’m here to tell you, learning to balance both prioritizing yourself and others, quieting your anxious mind, coping with emotional pain, and feeling more secure in yourself IS possible.
You’re exhausted, trying to balance multiple responsibilities – work, relationship, family, social connections – and feeling like you're running on auto pilot. You have a mind that rarely quiets, overcome with planning, worrying, insecure thoughts, or fear of letting others down. On the outside, you’re managing fine, but behind the mask that you put on for others, you’re struggling. Relaxing and feeling at peace seems wildly out of reach. Alternatively, you may be feeling disconnected or fighting more in your relationship, the busyness of life has taken over and you two haven't been making each other a priority.

Tom is a specialist in trauma, anxiety, depression, and culture.
Good psychologists devote ample time to listening to and helping their clients. No one should have to feel like they are making an elevator pitch when they see their therapist. I offer longer sessions which allow for deeper discussions and help that is personalized to your lived experience, strengths, and culture. My approach is calming, caring, insightful, and creative, and I'm also trained to discuss topics that some psychologists don't have the comfort or cultural knowledge to address. Together, let's start building a way forward free from struggle with negative emotions and towards a more meaningful and fulfilling life!

I work primarily with adults who face challenges associated with traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety. My warm demeanor and gentle repose enhances clients’ abilities to tune into their natural healing capacities. Twenty years of formal meditation training has shaped my therapeutic viewpoints, and I align with relational frame theory (RFT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): third wave mindfulness-based behavioural therapies. I also work from a somatic, brain-body perspective, using Brainspotting (BSP) to help clients release deeper held traumas. Principles of hypnotherapy also inform my practice.

As a Therapeutic Counsellor, I’ve worked with hundreds of individuals struggling with negative patterns, self-esteem, and anxiety.
Do you wake up in the morning already feeling overwhelmed, and the day hasn’t started yet? Many adults go through times when they feel stuck, unfulfilled, and have difficulties coping with stress. This can be a very painful experience. Unfortunately, many people try to cope with these challenges alone and in unhealthy ways (overworking, toxic relationships, emotional eating, etc.). This can lead to a feeling of a lost sense of self and affect all areas of their life.

anger management, compulsive-addictive behaviours, depression, anxiety, self-worth, relationship conflict, each of which can cause uncertainty, sadness, despair in ones way-of-being in their world.
Occasionally life presents individuals with diverse challenges which can result in adverse effects to one's overall well-being. In understanding clients challenges I take into account the emotional, mental, physical, social, cultural, and spiritual aspects of their being. Encompassing a holistic model of counselling I endeavour to validate and dignify clients experiences in a respectful compassionate manner. I join with individuals in exploring and confronting their challenges using a wide knowledge of counselling theory, skills, and techniques. I supportively encouraged clients to examine present beliefs, behaviours and perspectives, illuminating what changes in their thoughts, feelings and actions would be helpful.

You don't feel like yourself. There’s a sadness that wasn’t there before. You feel worried, stressed, or overwhelmed. You struggle to fall or stay asleep, and you wake up exhausted, struggle to make it through the day. You're withdrawing from friends and family, turning down activities you used to enjoy. You just aren’t YOU anymore. But there is hope... As a counselling psychologist since 2007, I have successfully treated adults, children, and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, self-harm and single-event or complex trauma, including adverse childhood experiences and motor-vehicle accidents.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
