If traumatic memories are the primary obstacle to better functioning I use EMDR and for clients who struggle with anxiety, insomnia, panic disorder, migraines, ADHD, chronic pain and emotional hyperarousal I find Neurofeedback most helpful.
My ideal psychotherapy client is an individual who is motivated to explore their inner world. Someone who willing to explore, and possibly reevaluate bedrock assumptions that play a major role in influencing our current attitudes and life choices. An ideal client also recognizes that a therapist's role is not to provide answers but rather to facilitate a process of self discovery which promotes emotional growth and lays the foundation for enduring change.

Adults finding ADHD symptoms are impairing their personal relationships and/or professional role may need new coping strategies. Compassion and curiosity guide my support of young adults (& teens 15 or older) with ADHD, whose impulsivity or poor organizational skills often burdens them with guilt and low self-esteem. If a mood disorder or anxiety is interfering with thriving in your workplace role, together we will develop self-soothing practices for your emotional regulation and occupational success. To nurture clients' bounce-back from trauma or help couples stuck in conflict, I draw upon my clinical training and lived experience.

I developed a passion for working with people with ADHD after my husband was diagnosed as an adult and we struggled to find therapists that had an understanding of the unique challenges that he was facing as a result of his ADHD.
I am an Occupational Therapist (OT) whose focus is working with individuals with neurological differences, with a specific focus on ADHD, anxiety and brain injury. I work with my clients to help them better understand their brain, how it functions and to support with developing strategies to overcome the challenges associated with neuro differences and enable them to thrive. I use aspects of cognitive retraining, functional rehabilitation and skill building, as well as in various mental health techniques including cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness practice and exposure therapy.

Don't fight to get tested for ADHD. We run ADHD clinics every month, get evaluated and properly diagnosed. Already have ADHD? Join our intensive program, next start date is on June 12, 2024. This next cohort is focused on emotional regulation, because ADHD is more than just not following through, and getting trapped in procrastination. Manage the overstimulation, reduce the rejection sensitivity and anxiety that's so commonly paired with ADHD. We currently have 4 spots remaining.

You value being calm, taking care of yourself, and being attentive to the needs of others. And yet, in this moment, you feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally neglected and on the verge of burning out. You’ve spent too much time putting the needs of others first, and disregarding your emotional, physical, and mental health. You realize now that you have suffered enough. You have a strong desire to pursue change in your life, to address the patterns that get you stuck.

We may understand what's causing us pain, but feel stuck and overwhelmed about taking action. I offer non-judgemental space for individuals and couples to explore these experiences with nuance and compassion. My areas of focus include ADHD, relationships, perfectionism, anxiety, grief, career concerns and racial identity. When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
