I am a person with ADHD & also a single parent of a child with disabilities.
Accepting Clients. People today are often pressured to maintain a perfect home &/or professional life, meeting the needs of everyone else while ignoring their own. This can result in feeling stressed, overwhelmed, exhausted or like you are not enough. Even worse, if not dealt with this can lead to serious mental/emotional/physical health issues. No matter what you are facing, you are not alone. I have a 20+ yr background in addiction & mental health counseling. My focus is helping those coping with ADHD/depression/anxiety/burnout/grief/work/relationship/family issues, your own or a parent/partner/child’s, disability/health issue.

I work with individuals with a wide-range of concerns and backgrounds but my main areas of focus are working with anxiety, eating disorders, ADHD and addiction issues. In my therapeutic approach, I aim to understand you and your world. Although people may share the same common symptoms, issues, and life’s ups and downs: no two people experience them exactly the same. It is important for me to understand how you experience things, so I can help you find solutions that fit for you. Together we will work collaboratively to figure out what is working for you and how to change the things that are not.

From my personal battles and experiences with ADHD, anxiety, trauma, addiction and being bi-sexual I can intimately understand your life struggles.
Life doesn't unfold neatly; neither does healing. The complexities that life throws at you can feel very overwhelming. Yet these experiences, though challenging, are also avenues for positive change. Together we will not only explore these aspects but also unravel your strength and resilience that often remain hidden beneath the surface. Through your journey I aim to not only help you find relief from pain; but also to empower you to transform these challenges into stepping stones toward a brighter future, and a more Authentic YOU! I promise to provide a safe space where you feel accepted, heard, respected, supported and understood.

I offer assessments for ADHD, personality, mood (such as anxiety or depression), memory, dissociative disorders, and more! I use Dialectical Behaviour Therapy - Informed and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to treat many different symptoms and concerns.
It's fairly common to be uncertain about which service would benefit you and where to start. A psychological assessment can help you understand exactly what it is that you're struggling with, while therapy can help relieve your struggle by targeting your exact symptoms with an effective treatment plan.

Working from a holistic approach, I specialize in women who were late-diagnosed with ADHD, have a history of trauma, and haven't found past therapy to be helpful. As a registered yoga teacher, you have the option to incorporate yoga-based movement and embodiment into sessions. Many of my clients report that in the past, mindfulness may not have worked for them, and if this is the case, we adapt it to suite their unique needs. My clients tend to be recovering people pleasers & are easily overwhelmed. In therapy, they want to figure out who they are on a deeper level and feel more at home in their own skin.

Does your child struggle with excessive worry, stress leading to physical discomfort, anxiousness in social situations or avoidance? Does your child have difficulty managing daily stressors or experiences cycles of intense emotions? Are your child’s difficulties with impulsivity or communication leading to peer or family conflict? Do you find your parenting strategies seem to fall short in supporting the exceptional behavioral needs of your child?

I have a passion for working with clients who are struggling with ADHD/ADD through education, coaching and providing organizational tools.
Throughout my years as a social worker and now as a therapist I have come to realize that everyone’s normal looks different and there is no one size fits all. Appreciating a person’s uniqueness, beliefs and aligning with their values is paramount to helping meet someone where they are at. As a therapist I feel that building a relationship with you is the most important aspect of helping you move forward in your journey. Perhaps you are struggling with a problem/issue that is getting in the way of living your best life?

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
