I look forward to meeting you “virtually”- individually or with your partner and/or adolescent(s) to help you on your journey to a more balanced, richer and meaningful life.
Do you need help managing in today's complex global world? Is something getting in the way? Or are you feeling overwhelmed, unable to cope? I will help you harness your strengths to move past your issues. Looking to the future- I'll listen, considering your hopes, and partner with you nonjudgementally to move you forward. I'll also help you find the strength to be courgeous if you need to be. Only if you're ready, I'll help you take meaningful action, so that you feel better about yourself, your life, and others. Together we will customize your plan for change or implement positive, sometimes simple wellness strategies.

Are you struggling with a challenging child, feeling like it's affecting both your day-to-day life and your relationship with them? Do you or your child have a neurodivergent diagnosis? Do you often feel exhausted, overwhelmed, frustrated, or lost? Are you questioning whether your child is getting the support they need? More than ever, parents are feeling uncertain about their children’s behaviours and how to navigate the daily struggles that come with them. Especially when neurodivergence is involved. I believe recognizing when to seek support is one of the most valuable skills a parent can have.

My favourite client is someone who's ready to take a leap into the unknown, with the courage to try out new ways of surviving—and maybe even thriving—in this wild world. They’re looking for a sidekick who can offer emotional support, throw in some effective coping hacks, and help them untangle their communication messes. They’re also open to some gentle nudging to help them see their situation from a fresh, less 'Why is this happening to me?' angle. They also appreciate humour and real honest connection.

I enjoy helping couples who are struggling to find closeness in their relationship; typical goals are usually to improve communication and overall connection. I equally enjoy supporting individuals young and old who struggle to manage anxiety, depression, obsessions compulsions, traumas (i.e., military, car accidents), grief and loss, addictions (I.e., sexual). Goals often become finding ways to process past hurts and learn how to manage their emotions in healthier ways. With trauma in particular, I find people need support to get past stuck points that make it hard to differentiate the here and now from the trauma itself.

"Change is our only constant." I often find myself saying this to my clients as well as myself when undergoing a sudden change, challenged through a difficult event, or simply trying to navigate the stressors of everyday life. Sometimes it is difficult to manage or adjust to changes on our own and we need additional support. I hope that with my expertise I can walk alongside you to provide support when it is most needed and to help you navigate the emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and stressors that are getting in the way of your wellness.

I've been working in the mental health field for over 10 years now and know the importance of finding a counsellor you can connect with. I’m a couples counsellor who also works with individuals in a variety of topics. Many folks come to see me for my experience in the queer / 2slgbtqia+ community; which often has overlap with those who are neurodivergent, as well as exploration outside of a monogamous dynamic (ENM/poly). That said, I work with a variety of individuals in topics - just scroll down to ‘Specialities & Expertise’. My goal is to start by creating a foundation of trust and then customizing techniques to best support you.

Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
