My belief is that psychology is not a “one size fits all” solution. Just as each person differs through their personality, qualities, and life experiences, so does the healing journey and plan of care for each individual. If you are looking to understand where your thoughts, feelings and behaviours might stem from, you are in the right place. I work primarily with youth and adults who struggle with symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and those who are overwhelmed with increased stress in overcoming current life events.

Facing life’s challenges alone can be overwhelming. I am committed to creating an open and safe environment for individuals to share, engage, learn, and reflect. Working from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive approach, I strive to ensure that everyone I work with feels welcomed, understood, and valued. I believe that this is the way to heal and I invite the whole person: body, feelings, inner parts, and culture, into a non-judgmental space. Healing and wholeness are possible with empathy and connection.

Grief has knocked you off balance, spinning like you're on a tilt-a-whirl. The change hits you like a meteor into the earth, turning everything upside down. It's left you walking around aimlessly in an odd, surreal haze. The most tangible thing you feel is emptiness, and it's hard to imagine anything ever filling it. Sad and lonely, you can't do ordinary tasks (or get out of bed, for that matter). It's hard to "move on" when you feel this down and out. You know you'll have to find new ways of coping, but it doesn't seem fair. Understandably, you're angry about it, and you might even feel guilty about that.

I am a Registered Psychologist with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta. My approach to therapy emphasizes the importance of confronting our painful emotions and experiences from a place of safety, curiosity, and honesty. I work with individuals and couples as well as teens and youth. I also have a special interest in working with men. I believe that men are often under resourced when it comes to accessing, expressing, and understanding their emotions, often leading to painful, yet avoidable, experiences.

I work with anxiety, addiction (substance use) and chronic pain. Sometimes the little things become too much and you find you're overreacting or panicking. Maybe you can't get a situation out of your head and you're overthinking or stressed about it. Maybe you tired of numbing the pain or avoiding your problems cause it isn't helping. Sometimes our motivation is to stop passing on unhealthy patterns to our kids. Maybe you want to control your emotions so they don't control you. If you want to work on the roots of addiction and the stress and anxiety that is always brewing below the surface of chronic pain, we could be a fit.

Our world is ever-changing and demanding more of us each day. This can make us feel like we are falling behind and sinking into quicksand. When this happens, anxiety, stress, depression, panic, and other harmful feelings emerge. Society gives us the message that we should be able to deal with all of these things on our own and, worse yet, that our feelings are not even real. I am here to say your feelings are legitimate, that you count, and there is a way to work through them. Together we can create goals that work towards coping with daily activities and then thriving within your life.

I believe that every individual has set of strengths, skills, beliefs, and values that are unique to them, but sometimes when we are dealing with certain things in our life, it’s hard for us to remember the tools we may have to at our disposal to help us through the challenging time. My hope is that we can work collaboratively to highlight these strengths and skills and furthermore come up with new strategies and skills to help you grow and move forward in life.

Life is messy. That's all there is to it. Sometimes the mess is manageable...even beautiful. But sometimes, it can be overwhelming and distressing... As Dr. Suess says, sometimes it's "so big and so deep and so tall" you have absolutely no idea where to start the process of sorting it out. It is particularly challenging when the tangled mess involves difficult thoughts, big feelings, and important relationships. All of us need some help sorting things out sometimes. If you are ready to sort through your mess, but need help figuring out how to do that, I can help.
