I am an integrative therapist, using components of narrative, internal family systems (IFS) therapy, and somatic therapy.
Hi my name is Kris and I am non-binary with two gender presentations. I am a Mental Health Therapist working at finishing the final year of my degree from City University of Seattle. I believe that everyone is unique and because of this, the path towards healing requires a flexible approach. I specialize in working with the 2SLGBTQ+ community including queer and gender identity concerns. I also help with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, self-worth, trauma, interpersonal relationships, and discrimination. I am available to see individual clients 13 years or older, couples, and families.

My treatment approaches include, but are not limited to, EMDR, Sandplay, (IFS), MBCT, Acceptance and Commitment, Psychoanalytic, Psychodynamic, Gestalt and Somatic Therapies.
I work with clients who are seeking to connect, understand, and embrace their own authenticity; people who are looking for self-development and growth. You want to understand yourself in relation to your lived experience, of course pursuing symptom-reduction, but not just that. You want to work toward lasting change, not just a temporary reprieve from whatever is causing them distress. You are open to exploring parts of yourself that you do not like and make you feel uncomfortable because this is where your truth exists, and without knowing or embracing these parts, you will remain only half of your whole and change will not occur.

I work primarily with a somatic-based, trauma-informed and attachment-centred process: Self-Regulation Therapy (SRT), EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT).
I provide a safe place to process, heal and change, with an open, warm and practical approach to counselling. Sometimes clients jokingly say, 'I have issues'. Well, we all have 'issues'. When these issues become overwhelming, I help you gain the skills necessary to move forward. I think expressing both "negative" and "positive" emotions are important to well-being. I consider therapy a success when you leave with increased clarity about the issues that you are dealing with, feel hopeful about addressing the challenges holding you back, and feel confident practicing new skills that you have added to your personal skill set.

My aim is to help clients live a life full of meaning, connection, purpose, and vitality. Working in the Edmonton community for over 15 years, I specialize in trauma, burnout, and grief, but provide services for a wide range of concerns. As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) with training in Hakomi Therapy, I honour the mind-body connection and primarily use somatic/body-oriented approaches to healing. I believe that in order to achieve true lasting change, we must work with the body, as the body is where we store our unprocessed emotions, core wounds, and traumas. NOTE: Services provided in English only.

I especially enjoy using somatic based therapy as I have witnessed the value of this approach time and time again.
Hello! I would love to work with you to support you in overcoming whatever you might be struggling with. I work with youth, adults, and couples and who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship stress, grief, and major life transitions. If you are ready to make some changes and are looking for some guidance, encouragement and compassion along the way, then I could be a great fit for you. It might also be important for you to recognize and honour the difficult journey that has brought you to therapy, and I can support you with that as well.

I work with individual adults across the lifespan who are interested in holistic mental health. I use mindfulness as a pillar of my practice and strive to embody this and the other Hakomi (Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy) principles of organicity, holism, non-violence, and unity. Embracing the mind-body connection may help facilitate new beginnings and lay a different foundation through noticing patterns, creating new habits, and freeing limiting beliefs. Additional specialized training and interests are in attachment theory (relationships), polyvagal theory (working with the nervous system), and post-traumatic growth and recovery.

I combine Emotionally Focused Therapy and Somatic Experiencing to promote lasting and effective change.
Have you been struggling with feeling like something’s not quite right? In your relationships, your life - or within yourself? You may feel like you’re ‘not good enough’. Present-day circumstances, and events from your past, can both be contributing to how you’re feeling right now. I’m here to tell you that I specialize in helping people to heal within themselves, their relationships and to create new pathways in their body, mind and spirit to feel whole, precious and well again, or perhaps for the first time.

Life transitions, daily stressors, trauma, and mental illnesses can negatively influence the way we think, feel, and behave. These factors can cause us to feel "stuck" in old habits and patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that no longer serve us. I recognize that when we are stuck, it is difficult to make that first step towards change and reach out for support. Hence, I acknowledge you for making the first step into finding what works best for you. I understand that you want to take charge of your mental and emotional pain so that you can unlock your utmost potential.

As an Occupational Therapist I work with people who feel stuck and reconnect them with their purpose and meaning in their life. I understand the mind-body relationship. I work with the inner child, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, ADHD, and OCD. I have a deep appreciation for how the nervous system regulates to process emotions and trauma. I know from both personal and professional experience, when someone is held in a room filled with safety, compassion and curiosity there is growth in one's mind, body, and spirit. This leads to integrating healthier beliefs and a more satisfying engagement in one's world.

Trauma can leave an imprint on our lives, but it does not have to be permanent. It may alter your foundation and leave you lost, angry, confused and in unbearable pain. I believe that choosing to rebuild this foundation through therapy is a courageous step in healing. It is not always an easy journey as we need to survey the land, start digging, install the foundation and work with any arising obstacles. This can be an exhausting and scary process but we will work collaboratively at your pace and create a resolution that fits for you.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
