I am passionate about diversity and inclusion and I have training and competency with a variety of therapeutic approaches including EMDR, CBT, Narrative Therapy, Attachment Therapy, Somatic Therapy, etc.
Many of us have experienced adversity in our lives, including myself. Whether it is trauma, chronic pain/illness, racial discrimination or struggles, grief and loss, or depression/anxiety, these experiences often leave us feeling mentally, physically, and emotionally drained. My experiences have taught me that each person experiences adversity differently, and therefore, requires a unique approach for their unique experiential reality. Moreover, I believe that every person has the desire, capacity, and ability to heal and experience growth.

Hello! My name is Brooke, and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists. My contact information is now up to date as of June 28th, 2024. For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the field of psychology, with a deeply rooted desire to help others and understand the human experience from a psycho-somatic lens. This work feels nourishing to my soul in a way that words cannot fully describe. Seeing my clients grow as they discover moments of reconnection back to themselves and create meaningful change in their lives is a heart-warming experience.

My approach promotes well-being on multiple levels and includes somatic therapy, EMDR, hypnosis, mindfulness, as well as more traditional CBT and solution-focused talk therapies.
Sometimes, the more you try to hold it together on the outside, the more you fall apart on the inside. If you're feeling anxious, depressed, devastated, confused and overwhelmed by daily responsibilities, life transitions, relationships, grief or trauma, you're probably striving to get back on your feet. It happens to all of us and even the strongest can benefit from taking time to explore (often hidden or forgotten) inner resources. It's not a sign of weakness to seek support, but of wisdom: when what used to work no longer does, it's time to explore alternative options.

Currently accepting new individual clients. My approach is grounded in the belief that it is within a safe, caring relationship where we feel heard and understood that resiliency and healing are found. It takes courage to reach for help when facing conflicts, loss, and a barrage of negative thoughts. In attempts to fit in we often loose sight of who we are, and drift away from being our authentic self. I integrate a number of therapeutic modalities adapted to your unique personality and circumstances including EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and CBT to facilitate change.

With 10 years of somatic therapy experience, together we can work toward increasing your ability to manage stress, reducing discomfort, making authentic decisions, change habits and repair relationships.
It can be hard to enjoy life, especially when our innermost thoughts and automatic reactions are difficult or painful. It can feel like we are "stuck" on autopilot causing many areas of our life to feel unsatisfying, stressful, or overwhelming. I enjoy helping people to get "unstuck" from the symptoms of stress that they have been trying to manage (panic, anxiety, relationship issues, reactivity, etc). By reducing chronically held tension in our nervous system, we may better manage our responsibilities, our relationships, and recover ourselves easier. Therapy can help restore an inner calm and can help you come back to yourself.

We are a team of heart-centred and compassionate therapists who specialize in evidence-based approaches that have been found to promote healing and recovery after loss of any kind, including The Grief Recovery Method, EMDR Therapy, and Somatic Therapy.
Grief is a deeply painful, lonely, and isolating experience. When someone we care about dies, our relationship ends in divorce, or we experience any of the other 40 forms of loss, we often feel unprepared and ill-equipped to deal with our emotions. The wonderful news is, grief does not have to be a life sentence of suffering. There are actionable tools that can help you to move beyond the pain caused by a loss in your life. Whether you are grieving due to a recent loss or a loss from long ago, it is never too soon or too late to heal your heart.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in somatic (body-based) interventions and treatments.
I am a local Registered Psychologist and the Director of Heartland Psychology, specializing in the treatment of trauma, grief & loss, anxiety, and depression. In addition to working in private practice, I enjoy teaching in the Master of Counselling program at City University of Seattle as an Associate Faculty member. It was the loss of my mother to cancer six years ago that changed how I viewed the world and led me into working with others in their struggles. I am currently offering in-person and video sessions from our clinic in Fort Saskatchewan.

My trauma training is somatic experiencing.
Individual clients come to see me when there is recognition of loss of control of their moods and behaviors. Difficulty with boundaries, honesty and building secure attachments create a lonely and isolated life. Depression and anxiety can be so overwhelming and we often don't want to feel like a burden to friends or family so we keep it to ourselves. I help my clients find themselves and find hope. I work with couples who are experiencing breakdowns in communication, loss of trust due to infidelity or other secrets and help them navigate the way through the repair process.

I use a relational framework while drawing from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), experiential, somatic and existentialist approaches.
Hey! I'm Christopher, a Registered Provisional Psychologist. I work with teens, adults, couples and families dealing with a variety of concerns. I value flexibility, a deep connection and fun. I strive to meet you wherever you are in life's journey, whether that's diving deep and wading in the dark or if you're feeling stuck and need to untangle the mess. I aim to listen wholeheartedly and offer a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can be authentic. Lastly, I believe the journey is about progress (no matter how small) over perfection, which can be made a lot smoother when we are able to exhale and share a few laughs along the way.

The unfortunate truth is that life will always present tough times and challenges. Trauma and stress do not discriminate and can be immensely impactful. It may be easier at times to repress difficult feelings and emotions, rather than face them head-on. However, what is repressed can slowly seep out into multiple areas of one's life, impacting self-esteem, relationships, ability to cope, etc. Together, we can work on your goals to enhance what you already have within you to cope, regulate, and enhance your quality of life.

Hi, I'm Hayley, and I love hearing your story. Many people believe therapy to be a one sided conversation with minimal opportunity to interact or experience one another as real people. I aim to give my authentic self to my clients where I invite them to share their thoughts, experiences, and emotions. My clients appreciate my ability to create a safe and relaxed environment, with a healthy dose of humour. I want to help you find healing and make the changes in your life you are looking for, while you enjoy the process as much as possible.

I love working with trauma and have specialized experience with first responders. I get how it changes the way you think, feel and act so can work with emotional dysregulation and behavioural issues too. Addiction is common, and often a way to cope, and it's the underlying issues I enjoy nurturing and healing. At times, I work with people struggling in relationships, sometimes with themselves, or as they adjust to relational changes or losses. Other times I support people as they navigate life transitions like career changes, pregnancy/parenthood, health issues, or the effects of aging.

I am passionate about supporting clients as they navigate the gentle unravelling of thoughts, feelings, and beliefs born out of past wounding while paying special attention to the ways in which family of origin, early relationships, and adverse or traumatic events impact an individual’s ability to be in relationship with the Self and with others. My therapeutic approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, recognizing that humans belong to and live within numerous complex systems that influence their overall health and well-being.

If therapy, to you, means digging in deep and healing all parts of you - we may be a good fit! As a therapist, I believe that struggles and challenges are all a part of life. This is what makes us human! But we were never meant to struggle alone. You may be looking to address and process past wounds that are still impacting you today. Or, you may be searching for ways to deal with the messiness of life and learn to thrive rather than just survive. Maybe you're hoping to grow and evolve, by gaining skills your future self will thank you for. Either way, I will meet you where you're at and work with you towards healing.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
