I work with clients ranging from youth, ages 11-19 and adults/couples, whether varying concerns from anxiety, stress, relationships, family dynamics, anger, emotion control, low self-esteem, OCD, ADHD, sport performance & other concerns. They struggle with understanding how to cope may not have the tools necessary to make progress and not have these issues impact their life. They want someone to understand their perspective & provide them with tools to help make their life easier/happier. I also work with several couples in their relationship. My ideal client is one that wants to make change & is open to the process.

I understand that every person is unique and has different needs. I take time to understand a client’s natural strengths. Working alongside them, clients are able to develop new skills and resources to support them in a way that is complementary and fitting to their lifestyle. With specialized training in trauma, I work with clients who have experienced sexual, physical, emotional and/or financial abuse. Additionally, I work with clients who would like support with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and relationships.

Hi, I'm Hayley, and I love hearing your story. Many people believe therapy to be a one sided conversation with minimal opportunity to interact or experience one another as real people. I aim to give my authentic self to my clients where I invite them to share their thoughts, experiences, and emotions. My clients appreciate my ability to create a safe and relaxed environment, with a healthy dose of humour. I want to help you find healing and make the changes in your life you are looking for, while you enjoy the process as much as possible.

I love working with trauma and have specialized experience with first responders. I get how it changes the way you think, feel and act so can work with emotional dysregulation and behavioural issues too. Addiction is common, and often a way to cope, and it's the underlying issues I enjoy nurturing and healing. At times, I work with people struggling in relationships, sometimes with themselves, or as they adjust to relational changes or losses like grief. Other times I support people as they navigate life transitions like career changes, pregnancy or parenthood, health issues or effects of aging.

Overcoming life’s troubles can be really hard. Two out of every three people suffer in silence; often feeling ashamed or fearing judgement & rejection. Times have changed, and asking for help is no longer considered a weakness. In fact, it’s one of the most important, life-changing decisions we can make for ourselves.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
