Accepting new clients! As a woman with ADHD balancing motherhood and a career, I understand how overwhelming starting therapy can be.
You strive to be the best, the best partner, the best parent, the best at the office, but you always feel like you fall short. Will life always be this chaotic and exhausting? Despite your best efforts, there never seems to be enough time in the day. After caring for so many others in your life, you struggle to care for yourself. You're constantly running on empty but can't seem to stop the cycle. You're ready to bring balance to your life and feel confident in your decisions. Imagine feeling capable even in moments of stress, knowing you are enough!

Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and/or trauma, that affects your day-to-day functioning, relationships, career? Do you feel exhausted, frustrated, overwhelmed by living up to others standards, getting through the day, feeling like there's no light at the end of the tunnel? Now more than ever, people are feeling anxious and uncertain about how they are supposed to manage their relationships, work through trauma, finding their place in life. Pushing away your needs and not taking time for yourself can lead to long term issues for your mind and body. I believe it shouldn't be so hard to live a better life.

At our practice, we support clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, grief, ADHD, OCD, and trauma. We also offer assessment and diagnostic services. Life can be hard sometimes, and my clients often tell me that they have so much going on in their lives that they're struggling to manage their emotions. Many of my clients identify themselves as being helpers and caregivers and are having a hard time finding balance in their lives. If you're tired of managing alone and want to find some peace or clarity in your life, or feel better emotionally, you've come to the right place. Couples therapy is also offered at EW&S.

It isn't easy to find a therapist that is a good fit. A connection is important to establish that feeling of safety so you can share and truly be yourself. If you are here looking for a therapist to "vibe" with, I commend you. That's a vital step to your healing. So here's my shtick! I am trained in several therapeutic orientations, however, my favourites are IFS (Internal Family Systems), EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy), and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). My hope for you is that you want to heal, know yourself more deeply, or are ready to do the work for real change. Whatever your goal, we will work towards it together.

You're not alone if you are struggling with low mood, overwhelming emotions, or undesired repetitive habits. It is difficult to stop worrying about the future or ruminating on the past. When we feel overwhelmed by emotions, thoughts, and sensations in our bodies, we move away from social situations and opportunities that used to feel good. We become more disconnected from ourselves and others. We feel more alone, and uncomfortable in our own skin or unworthy of love and eventually, the actions we took to help cope are now becoming a problem of their own. We all have our unique challenges and it can be difficult to manage alone.

I enjoy working with both new and experienced parents who may be needing some support with parenting and building healthy attachments. I believe that in order to be present for our children, we need to ensure we take care of our own mental health as parents. I love to provide support to parents to help them flourish and embrace the parenting experience. The transition to parenthood, birth trauma, infant/toddler sleep, and postpartum anxiety are all areas of interest for me. I have my level one EMDR certificate and plan to take additional training specifically for EMDR with birth trauma and other maternal trauma.

Through all my personal and professional experience it seems that the foundation for much of our suffering and of our healing is in the context of our relationships with each other. I have found that exploring and unpacking our relationship experience and expectations provides new pathways for healing. I love seeing people's excitement as they become newly aware of the thoughts and feelings of their family, their community, and even their own selves. May we find more hope together. Together may we find your pathways home.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
