I have had a great deal of success working with children and their parents for many childhood issues such as behavior problems, ADHD, anxiety and so on.
My background is in systems theory; the idea that everyone is connected to those around them, with influence between all those people, organizations, and cultures. My approach to therapy is primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but I also see a need for insight into the meaning that we make/have made of things and how that impacts our present. Therapy then, involves opening space for a person to increase awareness of their own process and to see alternative perspectives, thereby empowered to make different life decisions. It is so exciting to see someone realize that they have the power to change their perspective and their life!

***EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS AVAILABLE *** I work with individuals who are struggling with a wide range of concerns. Many find it challenging to identify and regulate their emotions. They often act impulsively and struggle to maintain consistency in their day-to-day life. Many of the individuals I work with find interpersonal relationships challenging and may even vacillate between pushing people away and clinging to people. It is not uncommon for clients to currently be or to have previously engaged in self-harm and/or suicide ideation.

Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes, even the strongest people amongst us need a little bit of help to work through some of life’s more challenging problems. Everyone has battles to fight and hurdles to overcome at some point. Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, or any other issue, you should know that there is hope for a better tomorrow. You might be initially hesitant to seek out help and support for personal matters, but when you do, you will feel confident that you are taking a courageous first step towards getting to a better place and being a better you.

Life can be tough, even at the best of times, and we can all use a little help! I am passionate about supporting children, teens and their parents create better connections, increase communication, build coping skills and of course bringing back the fun to the family. Along with my work with families, I also support individuals on their journey of self discovery, whether it is by examining their values, relationship patterns or gaining perspective.

I work with young people who struggle with anxiety, self-worth, self-confidence, self-expression, and coping skills. My sessions are not the traditional 50-minute in-office talk therapy. Sessions are up to 1.5 hours, using relational therapeutic experiences (art, play, experiential, and talk too), based on the interests of the young person. I work with young people in experiencing the tools that will help them to resolve their concerns, giving them the opportunity to practice in their life-space. Appointments are available for evenings and weekends. I prefer to come to you for young children as they are more comfortable at home.

Evening and weekend appointments available in person or virtual. I hold a deep seeded belief that we each are doing the very best that we can in any given moment. I believe no one is exempt from struggle and at times it is difficult to know how we got to this painful place, and at other times an event (trauma) takes place which can leave us not recognizing ourselves or our life. I offer a safe validating space to heal and rediscover how you want to show up in your life. If you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck or wanting support in any area of your life, please reach out to me. I would be honored to be a part of your healing journey.

Reduced Fees and Evening Availability- Currently a Registered Provisional Psychologist. The challenges life presents are REAL. The recent challenging times has created an opportunity for deep healing, connection and profound growth. The first step toward feeling better is simply reaching out for help. Humans are exceptionally strong and adaptive, but often we don’t recognize our own internal strengths and abilities when faced with life’s roadblocks.

I do not have an "ideal" client. I believe in the importance of showing up as you are and I will do my best to walk alongside you. I specialize in areas of anxiety, depression, ADHD, perfectionism, boundaries, burnout, and relational issues. I am part of Kindred Roots Therapy which is a private therapy collective that is focused on redefining the "traditional" therapy experience. We aim to normalize conversations about mental health, and apply a strengths-based and laid-back approach to therapy. I have worked in not-for-profits, and inpatient and community healthcare settings for roughly 10 years.

I work collaboratively with my clients towards finding relief and life changing solutions, recognizing that people have power and strength within them. Whether it's problematic relationships, parenting support, stress, family dynamics, mental health issues or trauma that is impacting your life, I have seen over and over that change can happen. I offer a warm approach to therapy and welcome any struggle, small or large. Although I work with a variety of adult clients I am known for easily connecting with children and adolescents.

It can be hard to step into life the way you want when struggling with painful thoughts, emotions, or experiences. Asking for help takes courage and I work hard to provide a safe and authentic space to support you. I am passionate about working with people who feel hijacked by their thoughts and emotions, and with couples who are finding it difficult to feel securely connected. In therapy we work collaboratively so that you can gain new insight, experience peace, and find creative, workable ways to tackle difficult behavioural, emotional, or interpersonal problems.

What happens in therapy for behavioural issues?
No matter the type of therapy, individuals form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is often therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Individuals learn to identify situations that are especially troublesome for them and acquire new patterns of thinking and behaving. In therapy for ADHD, one of the most common behaviour issues for children, individuals learn how to improve frustration tolerance, control impulsivity, manage attentional focus, and gain skills of self-organisation.
What therapy types help with behavioural issues?
Many types of therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Perhaps best-known and most widely tested is cognitive and behavioural therapy (CBT), in which individuals learn new behavioral strategies and curb reactivity to frustrating or distressing situations that trigger disruptive behaviour. Anger, anxiety, mood disorders, impulse control problems are commonly addressed in CBT. Family therapy or parent management training is often helpful to reduce parent-child conflict and behavioral difficulties at home.
How long does therapy last for behavioural issues?
Among popular approaches to treating behavioural concerns, CBT is considered a short-term therapy intended to be administered in 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Parent training in behaviour management, often used when the underlying cause of behaviour issues is ADHD in children under 12, usually occurs in weekly sessions for 8 to 16 weeks. When behavioural issues stem from persistent aggression or defiance, therapy may last for months, and usually targets both children and their parents.
How effective is therapy for behaviour issues?
Studies show that therapy for behaviour issues in children is highly effective and may prevent the development of antisocial behaviour later in life. Family intervention—parent management training or family therapy, both of which involve parents and children together—is considered most effective, notably for children under age 12 who persistently engage in aggressive, defiant, rule-breaking or other disruptive behaviour. Whether provided alone or in combination with medication, CBT is highly effective in helping people regulate their emotions, and for people with ADHD, it addresses impulsiveness, hyperactivity and attentional focus.
