Welcome! My name is Bethany (she/her). At the core of my work as a relational and humanistic therapist is the belief that recovery is possible. I focus on providing therapy for stress, trauma, adverse childhood experiences, grief/loss, depression, anxiety, and addiction. Therapy can help to make sense of your life experiences by looking at where you come from, what you’ve been through, and how you are living presently. This deepened sense of awareness clarifies what is important to you for moving forward to build a future that is meaningful.

Imagine the life you desire: a life free from overwhelming distractions and constant stress. Does the piercing sound of your morning alarm fill you with dread? Are you relying on coffee, snacks, or endless social media scrolling to muster the energy to face each day? Consider this: embarking on a transformative journey often starts with a single, courageous step. Much like embarking on a thousand-mile journey, counselling is your stepping stone towards a more fulfilling life. It takes immense courage to acknowledge when aspects of your life are no longer serving you, and I commend you for taking this important first step.

I have experience working with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, family dynamics, relationship stress, chronic or life-altering illness, infertility, as well as women's reproductive health and pelvic pain.
Beginning to start working through our own personal stress and distress can be overwhelming and intimidating. Working with clients to find new ways of coping, process past experiences and trauma, and establishing healthy boundaries are some of my goals as a therapist, and I aim to provide a safe and comfortable place for that work to happen.

Whether you are hoping to address issues related to your career, your family, or your relationships, or you wish to overcome problems like depression, anxiety, stress management, or grief, I do my best to provide a non-judgemental space for people to work on those issues. I also provide formal assessment services, if you would like to achieve a better understanding of your issues. Finally, some of my clients also need support in managing behaviours that place them (or could place them) in conflict with the law, such as issues related to anger, violence or sexual behaviours.

Welcome! We might work well together if you're seeking a therapist who is gentle, direct, and engaged in session. I enjoy helping people improve their relationships with themselves, other people, and the challenging parts of life – things like trauma, anxiety, stress, communication, depression, and grief. I believe everyone deserves a supportive space to be heard and to heal no matter how they live or identify. And I love learning! I grow alongside every client I see.

I teach the classic 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) as a group therapy offering.
Everyone has the innate capacity to heal and transform. I see my task as offering a safe, skilled and authentic relational space in which that might occur. I offer a highly individualized and integrative approach to help you bring more balance, resilience, meaning and flourishing into your life - to call forth and nurture your true potential. I have over 15 years of experience in individual, couple and group counselling and have worked with all age groups and with many different mental health issues and challenges. However, I see everyone as completely unique and needing their own particular co-created path to healing.

My work experience has mostly been counselling with adults (and seniors) with different mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, work stress, and stress from life issues.
How do you find the best counsellor for you? This is a difficult choice and often being open and communicating with your counsellor will ensure optimal healing. I come from an acceptance of where you are in your journey. I do not believe the goal of counselling is “counselling itself”, but to find a way to move forward in your journey. "To feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health” (Bessel Van der Kolk, 2014).

It is valuable to explore the impact of both difficult events (illness, MVI, grief) and long-term stress (negative relationships, work issues, poor coping).
It can be hard to enjoy life, especially when our innermost thoughts and automatic reactions are difficult or painful. It can feel like we are "stuck" on autopilot causing many areas of our life to feel unsatisfying, stressful, or overwhelming. I enjoy helping people to get "unstuck" from the symptoms of stress that they have been trying to manage (panic, anxiety, relationship issues, reactivity, etc). By reducing chronically held tension in our nervous system, we may better manage our responsibilities, our relationships, and recover ourselves easier. Therapy can help restore an inner calm and can help you come back to yourself.

I help people find healthier ways of coping with life’s stress, change bad habits, and recover from life’s challenges. We'll explore, with curiosity, what purpose your habits might serve or used to serve. Then, from a place of understanding, we can discuss how to meet those same needs in ways that are better for you and your lifestyle now. I gained this experience working for 10-years with people in recovery from trauma, addiction, and mental illness and I believe that change is possible for anyone. But it's not easy to do on your own; I'm here to help.

In my work, I have been able to support my clients through depression, anxiety, emotional struggles, and post traumatic stress. I thoroughly enjoy working with adolescents and adults through all life stages and situations. I work primarily from a client centered perspective, meaning I believe that all people, regardless of their circumstances, have the ability within themselves to heal if given the proper tools and guidance. Attachment drives my clinical work, and I believe that healing happens in relationship both internally and within external relationships. I am also trained in the EMDR modality and DBT.

***I am not accepting new clients at this time.*** Therapy is no easy task. (Yeah, I said it). It is a lot of work with ups and downs, just like everything else you've accomplished to get to where you are! Whether you are seeking help for grief, trauma, life changes/events, depression and anxiety, family and relationship troubles, stress, or any other issue, it takes dedication to the process of self-discovery. If you are ready, I would be honored to take the first steps beside you.

You’ll find me at the intersection where trauma and mental health meets relationships; impacted by chronic stress, burnout, vicarious trauma, moral injury, and isolation.
Current spaces available for new clients. Same day responses. Strengthen your relationships with yourself and others with IFS informed therapy. I work mainly with professionals in healthcare, emergency services, social services, education, energy/body work, and Indigenous services; however, all are welcome. I understand the unique needs of individuals working in helping professions and the health and relational consequences of chronically stressful workloads and systemic oppression. It can be difficult to find the “right” therapist for those working in such specialized fields; you have very unique needs and parts. I get you!

I understand the unique needs of individuals working in helping professions and the health and relational consequences of chronically stressful workloads and systemic oppression. It can be difficult to find the “right” therapist for those working in such specialized fields; you have very unique needs and parts. I get you!

I welcome adults and older adolescents. If you want to improve your ability to manage personal challenges, such as depression, anxiety, stress, grief, relationship difficulties at home or at work, or any life challenge, my services might be the right fit for you. Aside from managing current life challenges, clients often contact me to deal with past negative experiences that are still affecting their lives, such as the death of a loved one, a traumatic event, abuse or assault, or just anything that sticks with them and influences them more than they'd like, I use techniques that quickly reduce or eliminate negative emotions.
