In my role as therapist, I strive to help you gain a greater understanding of yourself. This includes an awareness about the underlying reasons for why you think, feel, and act in the way you do. From a place of clarity, people often feel better able to make healthy and conscious choices, as opposed to operating out of habit or programming. I often work with clients to address unresolved traumas, which can be large or small. These traumas can, even years later, continue to impact us in ways we are not fully aware of. With couples, I specialize in infidelity, communication difficulties, and growing apart.

Something is in the way of a connected and secure relationship — perhaps the lifelong impact of childhood trauma and abuse, or a recent disclosure of infidelity that has fractured your trusting bond.
Do you and your partner find yourselves caught in the same arguments, no matter what you do? Maybe your thoughts are filled with the idea that you’re not good enough, or you find it hard to trust. You’ve tried talking it out, but that only seems to make things worse.

I have completed the level 3 Practicum Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and I use the Gottman Method Couples therapy in my work with couples, who have experienced trauma in their relationships due to infidelity, and substance abuse.
The impact of adverse childhood experiences often colours our choices, responses and reactions to the challenges of everyday life. These childhood experiences often manifest themselves in how we experience ourselves, as well as in our relationships with our spouses, partners, family, friends and co-workers. I have over a decade of experience working with individuals, couples and families struggling with trauma, relationship challenges, substance abuse, and domestic violence.

I have a decade of therapeutic experience during which I have supported individuals living with stress, anxiety, and depression, who have experienced loss and grief through death, divorce or break-up, pet loss, infidelity, intimate partner abuse, age and/or injury out of sport, unplanned career change, caregiver burnout, and various life transitions.
Loss is a universal experience. However, many of us are ill prepared to deal with the conflicting mass of emotions we call grief. While the emotional incompleteness can have a lifelong, cumulatively negative impact on our capacity for happiness, it doesn't have to. The Grief Recovery Method provides the correct action choices that help people move beyond the pain, isolation, and loneliness caused by loss of any kind. I strive to provide a safe space within which you as a client can make these choices and move toward healing and recovery.

Infidelity Counsellors

How does therapy for infidelity work?

A skilled infidelity therapist will provide a safe space for clients to communicate their feelings and concerns. The goal is to be completely honest about what led to the cheating and how it has affected the entire family to prevent it from recurring in the future. The therapist will help the clients work on rebuilding mutual trust and respect and developing better communication and conflict-resolution skills. If the goal is to remain a couple, clients will learn the “danger signs” for their specific relationship, and they will make a renewed commitment to be faithful.

How long does therapy for infidelity take?

Recovery from infidelity can take time, and it can vary from person to person. Generally, a therapist will want to see the clients at least once a week for around six months. Then the sessions can be arranged as needed, depending on the clients’ individual needs. While therapy may end or shift to an as-needed basis, it can take up to two years or more for some clients to fully recover from infidelity.

How does therapy help the partner who was cheated on?

When a client discovers their partner’s infidelity, their trust in the relationship and in the life they had together may be shattered. They often experience mental health symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They don’t always want to stay in the relationship; they may feel ambivalent or may even want to leave. Therapy gives these clients a safe and healthy way to communicate all of their complicated emotions and concerns.

How does therapy help the partner who committed infidelity?

Infidelity often occurs when one or both partners’ emotional needs are not being met in the relationship. Therapy can help this client understand why they cheated and figure out how to address those unmet needs without resorting to infidelity in the future. This can lessen (but not entirely eliminate) the risk of repeated infidelity. Clients who cheat may also feel intense guilt about deceiving their partners, a sentiment that they can work through in therapy.
