For couples, I used Gottman Method Couples Therapy and attachment-based interventions to improve communication and conflict.
Welcome! We might work well together if you're seeking a therapist who is gentle, direct, and engaged in session. I enjoy helping people improve their relationships with themselves, other people, and the challenging parts of life – things like trauma, anxiety, stress, communication, depression, and grief. I believe everyone deserves a supportive space to be heard and to heal no matter how they live or identify. And I love learning! I grow alongside every client I see.

Relationships are hard, but you don’t have to figure things out on your own. I work exclusively with couples using the Gottman Method and can teach you the tools you need to reconnect, strengthen communication, and get unstuck. Perhaps you have the same fight over and over, struggle to balance the mental load and domestic labour, or want to improve intimacy. Maybe you've entered a new relationship phase, are navigating addiction recovery together, or just want to find your way back to one another and have more fun. I would be honoured to help support you in untangling unhelpful patterns and begin transforming your relationship.

I specialize in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Solution-focused therapy, and Gottman method couples therapy to help individuals feel unstuck.
Mental health, relationships, and sex can be challenging and intimidating topics. You may even feel embarrassed to discuss these issues at times. There might be feelings of shame,  fear of judgment, conflicts with cultural or religious orientations, or uncertainty about your emotions. Life can be tough, and we may face unexpected challenges that make us feel hopeless or stuck in our relationships, careers, or life stages. I firmly believe that each of us has resilience and inner strength that can be developed to help us heal, grow, and develop personally.

I have completed the level 3 Practicum Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and I use the Gottman Method Couples therapy in my work with couples, who have experienced trauma in their relationships due to infidelity, and substance abuse.
The impact of adverse childhood experiences often colours our choices, responses and reactions to the challenges of everyday life. These childhood experiences often manifest themselves in how we experience ourselves, as well as in our relationships with our spouses, partners, family, friends and co-workers. I have over a decade of experience working with individuals, couples and families struggling with trauma, relationship challenges, substance abuse, and domestic violence.

Gottman Method Counsellors

How does the Gottman method work?

One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.

Is the Gottman method evidence-based?

Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analysed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.

How long does the Gottman method take?

The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.

Is the Gottman method effective?

Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomised controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
