Welcome! Let's face it, therapy isn't fun or easy: it's about problem solving! I am a registered psychologist and have been working in the field of psychology for over 15 years. I work with a diverse clientele with a wide range of concerns but what I have truly recognized is the importance of relationships to our satisfaction in life. Specializing in relationships means I work with couples and individuals who are struggling with their closest and most important relationships We have a biological need to connect, to belong, and our close relationships fill this need.

You feel overwhelmed and defeated. Regardless of how hard you try, you feel like you aren’t good enough. You struggle to live up to the expectations that you have for yourself and that everyone seems to have for you. These feelings may show up in your relationships with partner(s), family, or friends; in your career; or even in how you relate to your body. Maybe the seeds of self-doubt were planted by a well-meaning person in your life. Maybe they come from your social media feed or societal expectations to be perfect. You wish you could let go of the pressure and live a more fulfilling and authentic life.

You deserve to show up exactly as you are; to communicate your needs to your partner(s) and be heard; process your experiences of trauma and heal; and have someone to walk alongside you through uncertainty, grief, and/or life changes.
Are you looking for someone who understands the intricacies of experiencing harm at the hands of a religious institution/high control group? Someone who knows the impacts of sexual violence? Maybe you’re struggling to exist within a world that prioritizes harmful systems, profits, and power over people. Maybe you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed– as someone with lived experience of mental illness, I know how hard it can be to sort out what you’re needing. Regardless of what you’re struggling with, if you’re looking for someone who will non-judgmentally sit with and laugh with you, and accept you just as you are, I might be a good fit!

In addition to working with people on an individual basis, I have a special interest in working with couples and families.
Life poses many challenges. Sometimes we are able to manage and cope with life's challenges quite well. At other times, challenges become overwhelming and turn into problems that affect our work, relationships and overall outlook on life. I am a dedicated and experienced therapist with the belief that problems are a natural part of life and when dealt with in healthy ways can provide opportunities for growth and adaptation. My approach is collaborative in nature and based on the assumption that we all have the inner resources required to deal with problems and live happy, healthy and meaningful lives.

As a registered psychologist and having been in private practice for 14 years, I have had the privilege to meet and work with many wonderful couples, families and individuals. I strive to establish a solid rapport with clients in a comfortable environment. I have been told that clients appreciate my professional and direct approach that is not overly formal and allows for humour when appropriate. I use a biopsychosocial approach and incorporate several therapeutic modalities. I work to not only focus on managing symptoms, but getting down to the root cause of what is getting in the way of being able to achieve one’s goals.

Sometimes we hit a place in our life journey where we realize we aren't where we want to be. In these moments, sitting down with someone to sort through where we actually want to be, and then working through the issues getting in the way of us reaching these goals can allow us to tranform our lives. Whether the issues are within your relationship, work, family, or things that happened in your past I would be honored to work with you to live your best life.

Psychology can, non-judgmentally, help people deal with challenges such as depression, anxiety, addictions and relationship problems.
You want a LIFE more worth LIVING! Lets create that together! At all times, we are always doing the best we can with what we have: the knowledge, skills, experience and the information we posses in the moment. But, we often judge our "past" selves (and others in our past) from where we are at "today". This can create problems. With guidance, we can learn how our own (and others) past decisions, actions and experiences can create problems for us today. With understanding, we can learn to live more effectively! I invite you to join me for this journey!!

That I am a person! This is good to remember, as starting therapy can be intimidating (which credentials, specialties, frameworks are best, which therapist?), in the end, therapy is about building an honest, safe, and trusting relationship - a 'healing relationship' with another person.
Humor, genuine compassion and empathy are necessary for healing - especially the humor part! Which is why they are benchmarks of my clinical practice. Combined together, the healing force created is a 'game changer' in people's lives. My approach to psychotherapy is person centered (congrats, you are unique! Your therapy should be too), grounded in attachment theory (relationships are our friend! Don't argue...everyone needs a friend) and developmental psychology (we all go through life changes, change suucks, but it's unavoidable). All this guides our path to wellness. Heads up - standard credential speech ahead...

It isn’t necessary to stay stuck (or alone) in painful situations or challenging circumstances. Therapy/counselling provides an opportunity to uncover and discover new understandings, strengths and resiliencies in self (and others). Therapy provides a safe space to develop action plans to explore difficult life and relationship (couple, family/parenting, separation) issues or work/career concerns. Therapy also provides a safe space to explore and develop skills in managing mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, OCD, ODD, etc. No problem is too big for therapy. Clinical Supervision is also available.

My professional expertise includes working with clients presenting with mood disorders, life transition, couples issues, and trauma.
The counselling process can take on many forms, whether it's about self-exploration and understanding, emotional processing, problem solving, healing, venting or feeling better about yourself and your relationships in general. It can be about drastic shifts or about minor adjustments. There is no 'one size fits all' in therapy! What clients have in common is that they are brave, willing to be vulnerable at times and have a desire to make a change in their lives, whether functional or emotional in nature.

I work with individuals and couples facing life transition, including loss and bereavement.
I believe every client has the wisdom and resilience they need to live meaningful and fulfilled lives. I work with adults and couples to explore and understand the beliefs that guide them in their relationships and behaviour. I see my role as a supportive scaffold which stands to enable my clients to embrace the vulnerability needed to heal. Each client's journey is informed by their mind and body; I incorporate information from these as we navigate the therapy process. In therapy I focus on issues of existence, including growth towards self-awareness and self-acceptance, and meaningful behavioural change.

I do not take a person’s decision to enter therapy lightly and strive to provide a therapy experience that is safe, genuine, and straightforward so people are empowered to make necessary changes towards their full potential. I truly believe that life is the best teacher and that clients are the experts in their own journey but sometimes we need guidance through the difficult parts. If our therapy is part of your journey, you can be assured the knowledge I share with you is grounded in the current literature and my interventions are based on the most recent research evidence. I welcome adults and couples from diverse backgrounds.

I believe in creating a non-judgmental and comfortable experience, therefore I place great emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and strive to create an individualized healing plan.
Working through life's difficulties or personal issues on your own can be overwhelming, that's where counselling comes in. My goal is to create a safe, warm place where we can work collaboratively to achieve your therapeutic goals and reconnect with the best version of yourself.

Not accepting new clients
I love doing couples work, and working with families with adult children.
My approach to therapy is practical, creative, humorous, and interactive. Engaging in therapy is a vulnerable and courageous step, and I aim to foster a comfortable, collaborative process. When the tools and skills that were previously helpful are no longer working, I support clients to cultivate new coping skills, and identify potential areas for change and/or acceptance. I am a seasoned therapist who is able to draw from a variety of modalities depending on what comes up for the client.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
